In Kansas the age is 16 or 17 to get an emancipation I believe. It varies state by state though, so check online for your courts online publc access. And you also have to hold a job, finish school, and all that good stuff :) My older sister did it when she was 16 so that's the only reason i know about it lol.

A minor can not "sign themselves as adults". You are considered an adult when you reach 18.

If you are thinking emancipation, you will need to prove:
1. You are mature enough to manage your own affairs. This is demonstrated by things like a clean criminal record, good grades etc.
2. You can support yourself financially. You will need to show income and anticipated expenses.
3. That your welfare is better served by not being with your parents. Hating mom's rules will not meet this criteria.
4. That there are no other reasonable solutions to the issues at home.

You will need to hire a lawyer to get you though the process.

You would need to file in a court that has jurisdiction over your parents or custodial parent if you do not live with both.

A minor is not an adult, and cannot sign documents requiring majority even if the minor is emancipated. The age for legal emancipation varies by state.

An emancipated minor can contract for "necessaries": food, shelter, necessary medical attention (not elective, such as cosmetic surgery). Thus, an emancipated minor could legally rent an apartment and get basic utilities...but cable TV and Internet would be a problem.

This is not a slam: Given the way you've written this question, it would be wise of you not to emancipate unless in physical danger. Finish your schooling if at all possible.

Depends on the each state's law but usually it is 18 years old. However, most states also allow for exceptions in certain circumstances. Would need more information regarding which state and the circumstances you are trying to sign for yourself. There is always emancipation proceedings when the court deems the minor an adult and allows him to sign.
