Maybe it's just me, but nothing gets me going like standing 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage, booting a 50-yard punt, and hiding while my team attempts to tackle the returner.

Just you. Punter is the single most important player for the Dolphins!!! (and Oakland, Baltimore, etc......)

Do you remember Tom Tupa? Probably not. He was the quarterback at Ohio State, and went on to have a long career as a punter (at least 12 years). He also made a ton of tackles on special teams. That guy was definitely an athlete.

Last I chekced soccer players ARE athletes. And the punters don't just kick the ball. They've run a fake punt before.

Both, because soccer players are athletes. I'll tell you this, though, athlete or not, I'm going to teach my son to kick because if you're good at it there is always a team looking for a kicker or punter.

I agree with Aviator. They are specialized. Try telling Todd Sauerbrun that he's not an athlete. I'm pretty sure that he'll kick your @ss

It takes a lot of athletism to pin point how far and where the ball will drop before someone drops you!

They are very specialized. like a pitcher in baseball. does Roger Clemens look like an athlete?
