If my husband didn't ask me, I would ask him. I don't think either of us would have a problem with it. It won't change anything.

I don't know of any man who has taken a woman's last name in marriage. I do know of a woman who asked a boyfriend to marry her and he said yes but was upset that she did the deed before him because he felt it was traditional for a man to get on one knee and propose. However, she did it because he was taking so long to do so and she felt if she didn't go for it that it would never happen.

i had asked mine...but i was also only 18 at the time and he'd brought up the conversation in prior talks just didn't pose the question cuz he'd felt it was too early and I was a little young (he's 4 yrs older than i). Either way we were committed to one another and had made it up in our minds and hearts that the other was whom we were going to be with, so by the time i'd asked (btw it was mainly b/c i'd gotten orders for overseas) his yes was just confirmation of what we'd been discussing for a later on kinda thing...we just moved it up a bit:) Now for us it's been 12 yrs together 10 of which since our time before the Justice of the Peace.
