"A deranged man wearing what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his chest walked into a Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign office Friday, took several hostages and demanded to speak to the candidate, authorities said.

The man released at least three hostages as the afternoon wore on, but nearly four hours after the standoff began, police said they were still dealing with a hostage situation and the man had not been taken into custody" (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071130/ap_on_re_us/clinton_office_hostages ).

Why are women's attempts to gain power so often countered with male violence?

I don't remember it ever happening, but I do have a rotten memory. It is interesting that the one time it does happen, it happens to a female presidential candidate's office. Could be a coincidence, but then again? The guy has now been arrested, no one killed, and the police said the guy is a local wack-job (mentally ill). So who knows if we'll ever find out what his motivation was, since he may not be sane.

I am not sure this has to do with her being a women. Maybe be the man doesn't like what she stands for. Maybe the man is republican and doesn't like democrats. Maybe the man is just messed up and that was the nearest office around.

We don't have the whole story yet.

He was probably looking for Edward's campaign office, but you know how men are about asking for directions.

Really though, I think the gender in irrelevant this was just one mentally disturbed individual.

In this situation I think Hilary's gender was irrelavent, her popularity and notariety was what mattered. The man was also mantally unbalanced.

because many men do not feel that it is a woman's place to gain power, which is ludicrous. however, think about all the MALE presidents that have been assassinated. hate comes in all forms and people in power attract violence and hateful people.

Because some men would rather die than see a woman in power.

So quickly, many associate this with gender. Maybe it's because Hillary is a divisive politician...aka...she's a b*tch.
