when i'm sewing on the sewing machine
the top stitching is perfect, but the underside
gathers a lot, like bunched up and i mean a lot
what am i doing wrong

When this happens to me, it's because the thread has slipped out of the little slot in the bobbin case. Make sure you load the bobbin into the case according to the manual, and get it all the way down into the slot. Use a paintbrush to get all the fuzz out of that part of the machine so there is nothing getting in the way of your thread.

Hi,
It means that you're having a tension problem. Take out the bobbin and check the bobbin area to make sure there's nothing there that shouldn't be. Then put the bobbin back in the bobbin case and try again. If there's still a problem and you don't know how to adjust your tension, then take your machine to a reputable dealer/shop so they can help you. Good luck!

Indeed as the first responder stated you need to adjust your thread tension. The gathering is because top thread is just lying on the underside of your sewing.

You need to get out your manual and adjust the tension or some other control.
