The "Bodies Revealed" exhibit is in town for the next 3 months. That is were they take body donations and inject them with polymers and dyes to show you have the inside of the body looks. Some people call this morbid, but I find it utterly facinatiing to see the inside of ones body, and where all the organs are, blood vessels and muscles. Any lover of the workings of anatomy would enjoy this exhibit.
Yes, I have thought of donating to give organs to another that needs them, for science though I don't think that I would be up to that. Funny I want all my pieces parts intact in another person maybe, but not disected and sliced into little pieces and magnified 1000's of times for review by somebody.
Just take out what you can use and give them to someone who needs them. then cremate me.

I have had a donor card in my wallet right next to my driver's license for years. If there's anything left of me that will help someone else after I used and abused this body of mine, let 'em have at it.
I also donate blood and I think I'm up to about 9 gallons. That's a part of my body I can donate while I'm still on this Earth. I gave and R2 the other day and got a free sandwich from Quizno's which I had for lunch today. Since I gave and R2 which is really 2 pints of red cells, I thought I should get 2 but they said to come back in March to get some more. Before, I got a pint for a pint (of Cold Stone ice cream). YUMMMM.
I probably won't get anything for my eyes, liver, heart or lungs after I'm gone.
What's left after that, they can cremate and pour it into concrete and make everyone a key-chain bobble. ;+)
I still like Gladys' idea of giving her body to Science FICTION !!

I think it is a good thing to do but I would like a little say on what science does with my body. For instance I would not be to happy if my body was thrown in a field and watched to see the various stages bugs go through as I decompose. This is done so they can tell how long a murdered body has been has been laying out.
I went to see "body works" in Chicago. I would not like to end up as part of that exhibit either.

I will definitely do it. My parents, who are in their 80's now, are discussing that option, and are looking into what steps they have to take to do it. We had a "funny" story in our small town some years ago. The former minister of one of the churches had apparently donated his body to Dartmouth U. medical center. Several years later, a notice appeared in the town paper, saying that there would be a graveside service for him. "What's left" had been sent back home. Dad was saying that he read that they will cremate the leftovers, if the family desires.
I think it's a wonderful thing to donate organs that can be transplanted and to further medical knowledge to help people in the future. I, personally, would like to be sent to one of the Body Farms, to help forensic science. Some people may think that's gruesome, but I won't be there!

No, not personally.
I was an organ donor for years but last time I renewed my license, I took it off. I've worn out almost everything and I'm not through yet....HA!
Personally, I will be cremated immediately with no embalming, no casket (except the container required by the state), no viewing with all the trappings. My ashes will be spread at high tide line in the beach town where we used to spend weeks in the summer.
I think whatever a person wishes, should be followed by the family. I also am a firm believer in a living will and letting your family know what arrangements you want-in writing - and having the money set aside to accomplish it...all of which I have done.

Yes, I seriously considered this, so much so that I made out a medical directive, but I
cancelled it.
Why? I already knew that various parts would be used
to help others who needed them, this was ok.
Then I thought of my various
parts and limbs being sent
to various medical schools
and picked apart like a frog
in biology. I got pretty disgusted. My altruism started to vanish.
then I learned (I shouldn't
tell you this) that even tho a person is clinically dead, they
are kept alive on machines
until the parts are "harvested".
A body part that is actually
dead cannot be transplanted.
So even tho I want to help,
I have decided that I want to
go the natural route and be
all the way dead before I am
disposed of (in whatever way
my kids or the state wishes.)
Not only that, but the relatives still have to pay funeral expenses to bury the
"parts" that are left!

I already did. I signed the living will the organ donation & giving the rest to science. With the shape I'm in now, it should be an interesting science project.
To you religious folks- the body is just a shell.

It's something I have thought about, I'm registered as an organ donor and I donate blood. There are medical schools and accredited, ethical organizations that would be good places to consider donating one's body to. The information obtained from the body can be used to further research and education.

Good question. I thought about it but they'd look at my insides and laugh. So mine would end up at the body farm and I don't like that thought for some reason. Have you ever heard of the body farm? A place in Knoxville, Tennessee where they lay bodies all over the outdoor facility to study different phases of decomposition.

I have never thought about that ...and its just one of the things i cant say ....i mean well can you for minute picture that you donating your body to science ,thats after you die could be helpful in society ....can you imagine your body parts being cut from one piece to another for the medical preparations or etc....
i mean the thought of donating your body to science feels so truly an owner and coz it really can help alot of pipo and also to save lives .......but can you imagine how hard that could be for you and your family /relatives to just agree to do that !!
Believe me there are better ways to save lives than just donating my body to science .....as for me really for the thought of it , i feel its worth to do that , but reality i cant ...i dont know why !! oh my good Lord....
God forgive me, its hard .
You know what , this is the most and the hardest question i have dealt with on yahoo answers ,its made me to think so hard and just want to thank you ...truly its had my headlights switched on ....Thinking ...
I just want to say,
Thank you and have a pleasant day ...
Oh God! ....life, reality and whats leftbehind ,when we are gone (Dead) God Help us ...
