Insert your sound file
right click on sound file icon
click on custom animation
right click on the sound file inside the custome animation dialogue box that should show up on the right side
click on the effect tab in the play sound dialogue box that pops up.
You will then see three options to start playing == just key in the timing at which point you want the song or sound to begin and you're done.

Hi,

PowerPoint's sound editing capabilities are rudimentary.

A free program called Audacity will let you edit, mix, and enjoy the process of customizing sounds.

well for the song: when you add the music it should have a timeline where you can "push" parts of it out and cut and edit it and stuff.
hope this helps
