I need to know what the law states in regards to a work schedule. How much notice must the employer give you when making the schedule for your upcoming work hours and how much notice must they give you when making changes to the schedule? Also, does it have to be for one week or work or two?

I tried looking online but it was way too hard to find the answer. If you know, please help and also guide me as to where to find the answer if you can. Thanks so much!

(I'm asking for my sister because they change her schedule every day and sometimes even after she leaves for the day and she doesn't know until she shows up "late" because it was changed while she was sleeping!!!)

I've gone through every section of the CA Labor Code that sounded like it could be even remotely applicable, and can't find anything that indicates that the state has established any regulations in that area, sorry: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=lab&codebody=

Like many other aspects of employment, I believe it's up to the employer; the employee's options are to accept the conditions of employment or find another job.

Also, does it have to be for one week or work or two? - Neither. Notice is not addressed by the law. However if the management is changing schedules on employees for the next work day and *not* notifying them, I would look for another job.

California Labor Law is painfully complicated. I can't be certain, but if she is scheduled to be "on-call" then they can call her in. Otherwise, they might be able to call her in/change her schedule, but only if they pay her additional hours (kinda like a penalty to the employer).
