This morning when I walked into my High School, there were small flayers posted(by a club) on every student's locker in the building. The flayers contained information about a local Peace Rally that would take place this Sunday. This same club did a similar thing last year, only the flayers had one picture of a soldier who has died in the war since it had started(every picture was different).
This got me thinking... What if a group of Pro-Choicers decided to do the same exact thing, only instead of having information on a peace rally, it was a protest against abortion at a local clinic. Or instead of a picture of a soldier it was statistics on abortion.
Do you think the school would have even approved such a thing in the first place? Why or why not?

P.S: I decided to use abortion as an example, not because I want to try the idea out but because this issue it seems like is more politcal than religious.
I mean, even if the religious aspect of it is taken out, I strongly believe, there would still be people protesting against it because...preventing a potential life to come into existence would still be considered murder in their eyes.

By the way, I have no problem with the flyers, I just started to view this from another perspective when I saw A LOT of them torn off the lockers, ripped to pieces, and trashed all over the hall way, at the end of the day.
********************************************************
If you say no, why do you think the school approved the anti-war protesting flyers?

I would have a problem with it if I were a student because I'm for abortion in some cases. I also think that it would cause some controversy among your school because not everybody really agrees on it..
There isn't anybody who lives in america who hates our troops or doesn't want peace, but abortion is a little more controversial.
glad you're trying to make a difference though!

I understand what you are saying, but consider this. You are comparing two different issues, not two sides of one issue. Doing so makes it more difficult to get your point across.
So, if the school approves of a peace rally then I do believe they should approve of a rally supporting the war also. Like wise if a group of prolifers had a rally I also believe a prochoice rally should be approved. You didn't mention what club sponsored the peace rally. I think any rally mentioned above should have direct bearing on any club that the school has. As an example, I wouldn't allow a rally by the chess club about prolife or prochoice as these two things have nothing to do with chess.

To clarify the argument a bit... the school itself is not participating or officially sanctioning/approving this distribution of flyers for the peace rally..... the students have done this on their own and are exercising their freedom of speech. correct ?
That being said...if you feel strongly about protesting against abortion..., then maybe you should organize a rally of your own.
I'm pro-choice however, but i'm also pro-free speech...so I would encourage you to make you own voice heard.
Just don't be surprised when you stir up the bees nest.... and you will. If they try and stop you, keep going until you get your point accross.
good luck

it sounds like the wording of the flyers were quite netuaral. It wasnt like,' COME TO THIS ANTI WAR RALLY" ect. WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER,COME AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT"
probably how it got approved, the wording is not very controversial.
i cannot see an abortion( pro or for) going up in a school,it is far to controversial,no matter what the wording was on the flyer.
i know at my uni, clubs MUST get approval before distributing flyers ect.

OK. I'm confused. This was for an anti-war rally? It actually had nothing to do with abortion, but you're just wondering "what if"?
Anyway, no frickin' way to anti-choice flyers. See the documentary "Unborn in the U.S.A." for info on the inappropriate, unnecessary, and hateful scare tactics anti-choicers use to "spread their message." You're absolutely right that people would flip out to find pro-choice flyers, too, so why should anti-choicers get to monopolize the hallways. Keep your church off women's bodies and out of our schools.

From what I understand of 'no uniform' days, (sorry i'm an previous wrinkly and we not in any respect had them) they regularly nonetheless have a gown code! i'm suggested by ability of my little ones that it would want to were banned at their former college because it instructions as 'Provocative fabric'. I don't know if the school approved of this , but I know there are people who speak at schools [in canada] because they believe everyone deserves to know all the facts.
Pro- choicers tell you about girls who die from 'back alley' (illegal) abortions But they may not be as candid about the girls who bleed out from legal ones. Also , many girls are unable to concieve when they are ready for a baby post procedure.
The abortion procedure is more than unpleasant. I can't repeat what I know but you can get more info at your nearest crisis pregnancy center.

I personally think people have a right to do what they want with their bodies. I think it's rather dumb to bring a child into this world that isn't wanted because if that child is lucky it'll get adopted. If it isn't so lucky it be along the millions of children in orphanages and shelters that don't get adopted.
To adopt a child you have to be qualified, not only that but it's also VERY expensive were talking (10k and more)
The school shouldn't have allowed a groups opinions to spread around into the school.

I think that students should be allowed access to information which can affect them as a normal matter of course. However, each locker "belongs" to an individual student and should not have things attached to it by other students. That borders on vandalism and paves the way for anyone else to put anything else on other people's lockers.

That is a political issue and should be kept out of the schools. And, I agree. A pro-choice rally would have the RTLers burning down the Board of Ed.
