Hello & good day to you!
I say yes, but here's a little about my story.
Good question, that's for sure! I was in that boat with my own mother who I had to take off life support. I was 18 years old & I was her next of kin. Had I not pulled the plug, they would have anyway, but my family thought supported my decision and what made it easier is the fact that I didn't think she could hear me. She was brain dead. I know the machine was keeping her heart pumping because I asked the nurse why she was so warm & the nurse told me the machine was pumping her heart & one push of the button it was off and back on to show me. I honestly don't know if she knew I was there, but I doubt it & I loved my mother more than anyone else in the world ever. I did honor her wish & had her organs donated, but I had to decide fast what to do & I know I did the right thing. I wish there was a sure fire answer for this question as I've been there & even the attending physicians could not answer for sure if she could sense my presence, but I personally don't think the auditory system is working when someone is brain dead. If it makes you feel better to talk to him while in this state, by all means, do so b/c no one really knows & now a days (My mother's case was nearly 28 years ago) medical science has gone so much further since. I don't regret my decision as the hospital would have taken her off in 2 days with a court order & I'd do it again if need be. Hardest thing I've ever done. I believe that when someone is brain dead, talking to them can help, but I'm not sure how. It sure won't hurt! I know that patients sometimes awaken during surgery when meds wear off a little & they talk and even mention pain to the doctors, but they don't remember any of this when they awaken. This is factual info & this makes me believe that talking to someone who is brain dead could help even if they don't remember if they awaken, at least someone is there & I think that is important. You'll probably feel better anyway. I hope this helps, sorry for the excess text & God bless!!!

scientifically speaking.. if the part of the brain that process sound and turns it into thought is gone.. he doesn't have a clue what you are talking about.
If this is a question of spirit and faith... then if you believe in it, I'm sure he can.
P.S. I would like to add in that the brain is pretty complex.. and sometimes different parts can take over for parts that are damaged.. we know very little about the actual workings of the brain compared to how much is actually going on. That being said.. as far as science is concerned the odds are VERY much against him hearing you... but stranger things have happened.

There is no way of knowing for sure, as the person above said it really depends on what you believe in more - science or spirit. If there is any doubt, keep talking to him because if he can hear you then he'll need to hear that you are there.

The hearing is the last to go, so yes. Their souls is gone from the physical body, and they can hear you then too. As soon as they die, their soul is immediately judged, and they are in Heaven is lived a good life and believed in God. I m glad my loved one had their last rites given to him, which forgives every sin he ever committed. You must have faith in the end because their is nothing else and nothing matters except your faith.

No, the only thing keeping this person alive is the machine.
My wife was on the machine, when the light went out of her eyes, we had them to pull the plug.
No use in keeping her alive on a machine.
They can`t hear you or any thing.
Sorry.

He could. He might have lost the abilities to express himself, but he might be able to hear.
That's why doctors tell family members to say nothing the patient shouldn't be hearing when the patient is in coma. Doctors encourage family members to say loving thoughts.. something good....
