if the college i was going to offered both nursing and music could I major in one and minor in the other? I don't really understand how that whole system works. I love music more than anything but I know that nursiing is something I would like too and there is high demand for nurses...if anyone could help that'd be great. thanks.

Your minor doesn't have to be related in any way to your major (in fact, it can be a good thing if it reflects a different interest of yours), so it'd be completely doable in theory. In practice, you'd need to be sure that you could get in all of the requirements without overworking yourself or having important classes conflict. Fortunately, you don't have to declare both right away, so you've got time to figure it out.

Usually, a major and a minor have to be in related studies. My daughter double majored in linguistics and hispanic studies. But nursing & music are a long way apart. You could double major, but it would take longer because you have to take everything required for each major. That's a little more effort.

There is a great demand for nurses; it's a very demanding job, too. Music doesn't pay well, and jobs are hard to find, though private lessons pay pretty well.

I wish you the best. You sound like a really neat person.

Yes, definitely, BUT your college may not offer minors in both of those. For example, my friend is a film major/english minor, but film studies does not offer a minor at my school--so she could not have been an english major/film minor.

Also, you can double major and do both. With some majors in some schools this is really tough, but at UCSB I have done a film major and comm major and it hasn't been too hard. I took minimal summer school and will be graduating early.

Just make sure your school offers minors in those fields, and you should be fine. When doing more than one concentration, make sure you take classes that can fulfill more than one requirement (for example a class that counts for a gen ed requirement as well as a nursing requirement)--that's how you can study both subjects and not end up going to school for longer than you planned/can afford.
