Gmail for sure. You wouldn't believe (I didn't) the wonderful job Gmail does of filtering spam out, right off the bat!

(No invite needed, BTW, but then, Hotmail's free, too, so that's not a criterion.)

I have both. Including Hotmail's new MSN "Live", which is truly fancy, and truly SLOWwwww. MSN "Live" is very quirky on Firefox...horizontal lines may appear on display of individual emails.

Gmail offers more storage, if I'm correct. I prefer Gmail's access to other (Google "world") services such as Docs, Blogger, Calendar, Orkut, Labs, Picasa, Google Desktop, Google Toolbar, and creation of a Google Apps for Your Domain account, and more, all under control of one Gmail account.

And, finally, Google supports "green" technology with a new initiative: see http://www.google.com/corporate/green/energy/index.html

Well
Lets me tell you about gmail first
Gmail is ofcourse fast Things open up faster . It has simple colours used very well, it has no glimmery looks which is with others. Also it has chat feature inside your mailbox so you can chat whenever you open ur mail.
Also a fact about google talk that you can chat with your hotmail, yahoo and gmail users.(but u need to do some screwing up, search web for it).

and hotmail: Well good colours make you colourful that it has. Yes a bit slow that gmail.

And talking about spam, they both does it fine. The spam are generated when you give out ur email in some non reputed or thrash websites and if you subscribe for some ...

Well i use both gmail and hotmail.
i like hotmail for its looks and gmail for its peformance

What you do...

I have both Hotmail and Gmail. They are both good. The only reason I would recommend Gmail over Hotmail is because of all of the other features Google offers. Google Maps, reader, images, news, etc. They're all free and clickable right at the top of the page.

Gmail is far better. The interface is simple. Finding messages is much easier therefore you don't have to sort them into different files. You get much better spam protection. It never seems to go down. You can use its pop feature to download messages to your outlook or other email client. It has a far larger inbox limit. It doesn't lock you out of it you don't log in all the time. Great as a junk account.

Hate hotmail. Always get spammed to hell and the keep locking your account out if you don't log in all the time. Use it now only for signing up for things ie I don't really use it.

Gmail no longer requires you have invites to join. Anyone can now.

Obviously Gmail. Gmail provides users with a gigabyte of storage for messages and provides the ability to search for specific messages. The Gmail program also automatically organizes successively related messages into a conversational thread.
