To be honest, it's not just how Apple works, but any company. If new products come out, chances are their olders models will go down in price. Just look at the perfect examples: computers, cars.
The way you're putting it, I should complain that the new 2008 model of the Mazda 3 I have I bought in 2005 better at the same price, so they should give me the new model.
You can't do anything really, it's just business and economics at it's best.

This is the nature of technology. There is no way to stop it, because there'd be no place to draw the line. What, you get a refund after one month? two? a week? six months? It doesn't make sense. Technology is going to advance, and it's going to come at someone's expense... someone who just bought something new yesterday. Or, how should someone feel who bought the first generation iPod, which holds just 5 gigs, and cost $299 new?
Unfortunately you don't have much recourse.

It's called capitalism.
If you bought a car last year, and the new model came out with more features for the same price, there's no way that Chevy or Toyota would give you the newer vehicle.
No company has any responsibility to let you know that they're coming out with a new product, or to upgrade you just because you didn't wait.

This is how apple works. It's not very fair, but they do it all the time. My husband bought his 1GB Nano a year before I bought mine and I got a 2GB Nano for the same price. They did this same thing with the iPhone and people were PISSED! You can try to contact apple, but I don't think they will do anything about it. I'm sure they get tons of complaints every day for stuff like this.

you could try calling them
i dont' know if you noticed but earlier this year ipod issued partial refunds to iphone purchasers who bought their iphone right before they did a price drop of like a couple hundred dollars!
i've had apple products for years now and they seem to take care of their customers.
i got burned once with something similar to this when they intro'd the new macbooks right after i bought a ibook g4. one of the best things to keep your eye out for is the "keynote speech" that's when they tell you what is coming out in the following year. anyway good luck!

When Apple pissed off people with their Iphone price break they offered $100 vouchers to purchase accessories. Try asking them to compensate you with something reasonable that you could actually use, maybe an Itunes gift card?

You just have bad timing and have to suck it up.
I bought a Zune when they came out, a year later I bought one for my GF and hers cost me $50 less. That's how the market is.
