My cousin killed herself at 18 before her sentencing, and I have a friend who killed himself the night before his sentencing.

I also had a friend who went back to England before sentencing and ended up dying shortly after that.

Have you lost any friends or family shortly before sentencing?

It's nothing to do with guilt. I dunno any of them who feel guilty for having used drugs.

I believe they are suicidal before their run in with the law....this perhaps leads them down the path of destruction, breaking laws, getting incarcerated, etc. When it's time to face being caged they simply act out the final phase of their depression. I'm sorry about your cousin and your friend.

Guilt is a powerful motivator as is the perception of abandonment. Perhaps these people felt that they could not be seen fairly even if acquitted or after serving time/paying the debt or whatever the court deemed. I am sorry for your loss and for others like yourself this is devastating. I have lost a number of friends to suicide for various reasons so I understand the need to understand. Sadly we can never be in the mind of our lost friend/family member. We can only remember them and keep the good they gave us alive. For many years I volunteered at hospitals, clinics and on help lines to find an answer and to hopefully prevent anyone else from being so alone they died of the loneliness. I am a mom now and still talk about my lost loves when ever anyone thinks that suicide is the easy out. I remind them of the wreckage they leave behind and I think that makes a difference. Reach out in wisdom and I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes.

I'm sure they feel embarassed and stressed at the same time. They feel there isn't much to live for in prison so they end their life.

They must have felt they would rather end their life then go to prison which is sad
