The Santa Claus tradition comes from Nicholas Claus the Bishop of Ulm in Germany hundreds of years ago. This real person was also mixed as time went by with the ancient psuedo-pagan mythical figure of Father Christmas. Nicholas of Ulm used to pass out gifts to poor kids at Christmas from a horse drawn sleigh. He was cannonized (made a saint)after his death by the Catholic church.

Santa Claus is real because he was already declared a saint. Therefore, if he is a saint, he can perform miracles such as giving gifts to a mass number of good children

As children yea we like to think he is real, it makes christmas more for the kids than anything, so don't stop believing...

As parents.. we ******* wish santas was real, jeez it has to be the most expensive day of the year unless your getting married and your honeymoon is rather expensive to add onto that :P

But in any sort of case, Santa is not truly a person as of now... Santas got his name from Father Christmas, also known as old saint Nick.

Santa was a fictional story to make up for St. Nicholas and his ways of generosity.. He Helped kids look forward to Jesus's birth.. The Catholic church wanted more people to be excited for this event- SANTA DAVID CLAUS WAS BORN!

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, or simply "Santa" was a historical figure. Saint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He was a 4th century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity. So in this sense, yes, Santa Claus WAS real.

Pre-modern representations of the gift-giver from church history and folklore merged with the British character Father Christmas to create the character known to Britons and Americans as Santa Claus. Father Christmas dates back at least as far as the 17th century in Britain, and pictures of him survive from that era, portraying him as a well-nourished bearded man dressed in a long, green, fur-lined robe. He typified the spirit of good cheer at Christmas. The name Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch name for the character based on St. Nicholas. He is also known there by the name of Sint Nicolaas which explains the use of the two fairly dissimilar names Santa Claus and Saint Nicholas or St. Nick.
