The line on your pregnant belly is called the linea negra. This line is caused from hormones in your body. An old wives tale includes that this only happens to the mother of boys, but I'd personally have to disagree, being as I have had a boy and never had this line.
Typically it runs from your pubic bone to the top of your fundus, externally where your belly stops growing. It may be darker or lighter than others but is usually always present. It will fade after you give birth.

What line are you talking about - do you mean the line that runs up and down the center of the belly from the belly button down. That has to do with the amount of pigmentation in the skin. I'm fair skinned and didn't get a line with my 1st and I'm almost 20 weeks with my 2nd and have no sign of a line.

My friend has one. She calls it her "mother's line." It goes straight up her belly in a vertical line, coming from her pubic area. It's just a discoloration that happens often during pregnancy and hangs around a bit afterward. in the case of my friend, her son is 4 and it still hasn't gone away.
