Here! Here! I think it's time Canada did the same thing. Governments seem to be too scared to take a stand in case the Chinese government retaliates. Canada is guilty of the same thing. Our friend's 2 cats became quite ill from the pet food. It would be cheaper in the long run if our countries took care of business here instead of dealing with them.

Last I heard Hong Kong is under China's sovereignty, which to me it means it doesn't have to let American navy in if they dint want to.
Do you think if US retaliate, they will just sit there and take it?
if US send their diplomats home, then they will send a few of yours home, and US will get no help from them for the North Korea talk, bad enough?
If US slap a nice import tax on the goods, they will slap one the same on US's, American exports to China is 55 billions !! and plus they will put a few new rules on US investment over there which up to 100 billions! Even Bush is not that stupid.
Don't forget US did worse to them than just a refusal to let the navy docked. Remember US bombed their embassy in Belgrade during the Kosvo war! And all they asked for is an apology.
I am not a pro Chinese, but I am for the free economy, if you think Chinese made are craps, then don't buy it. you can buy french or Italian made if you can afford it, until one day they pissed u off as well.

If the US slaps tariff's on imports of cheap chinese junk they'll reduce their purchase of the US Treasury bonds and notes and we'll have to end the deficit spending and pull out if Iraq real, real fast. Trust me it would be ugly. They have us by the short hairs, until our governement and corporations grow up and starts "running their houses" like grown ups, they'll continue to have us by these little proverbial hairs. Our economy is built on debt and the debt that China buys from us is very critical to maintaining that system. Without it cash would get really scarce inside the beltway.
Untill we change the system, they own us because we need them to buy our debt. If we mess with that, they won't and in the short term, were sunk.

It's their port, they have the right to refuse. Besides, increasing taxes on what america imports would only raise the prices and hurt americans. try again. And perhaps you're unaware that without China buying US Bonds, our country couldn't function? That the majority of our national debt is owned to China? The world is a lot bigger than your own backyard...

"Slapping" an import tax on Chinese goods is an extremely ineffective way to go about doing anything. Any tariff's or price controls are a bad thing. They are proven to hurt the country who enforces them.
The answerer before me made a good point. It IS their harbor, and we can't tell them what to do with it.

Better yet just default on all of our Tbills and block all Asian imports.
Less some forget thats what China did not so long ago. And just look at them now.
We only owe what we want to pay.
If the rest of the world doesnt like it we stop paying all together.

China owns us. If they were to call in their loans, this country would be in a sh#t load of trouble. Besides companies like Walmart buy so much of their products from China that they would never let govt. try and place a import tax on them.

I do not buy crap from China.
As to Janet B. answer to which I totally agree with her, I think we should unite North America and take care of our own continent. We have enough resources to make North American solely sufficient and without relying on the help of any communist or radical Muslim countries.

I think as patriots it's our duty to help out our sailors. If you see a chinese guy walking around on our soil be sure to give them a wedgie.

why? china is its own country, as are we. how about we stop DEPENDING on china to make cheap products and make our own!? oh right, we dont have the resources to do so. So basically, without china, we're screwed. or we could just stop being cheap and buy imports from another country.....just a thought.
