A flea infestation has to run its course. The pupea stage of a flea is protected in a hard coccoon like shell which protects it from insecticides such as flea bombs which leave no residual to kill the fleas. Follow these steps.
1. Vacuum all flooring---This will pop open the pupea
2. Lightly sprinkle boric acid or diatomaceous earth on carpets and sweep in with broom so its not visible.
3. Repeat twice a month until fleas are gone.
Boric acid and diatomaceous earth are very low toxic and much safer than flea bombs.
This remedy came from an exterminator friend of mine.

take animals to vet to have them flea dipped, Board them while you have a licensed exterminator bomb your house with bug bomb. Shampoo your rugs and put flea shampoo in with the regular soap. Shampoo upholstery the same way. Wash drapes and curtains and all bedding. Vacuum after rugs dry and spray according to professional advice. When animals come home have them wear a flea collar. Do not let them outside except dogs to walk with you. Cats inside with clean litter. Good luck.

take your pets to a groomer and give them a capstart (it's a pill that kills all the fleas sitting on your dog in 3 hours) and have them dipped. get borax (cleaning powder) and sweep it into your rug..to get it in deeper and spread it around. and let it sit for as long as you can (best doing it while your pet is at the groomer) the longer it sits the better. what it does is it dries out all the eggs that have been layed adn kills any fleas chillin in your carpet. than vacuum it up and put frontline (or what brand you prefer) on your dogs. I'm a dog groomer I give this speech plenty of times a day!

I hired a exterminator. It will take a month to get rid of them It will take that long for them to multiply and die from treatment.Pick up all rugs that you can., vac, vac, vac.. Keep your vac outside as the fleas can get out, they will find a way! The exterminator says if they get on you go outside for a half hour (to go to someones home etc.) they will leave your body for the ground. I wear white socks so I can see them on my feet , I go out side and brush them off. Again make sure you do the whole house upstairs and even in the cellar(

A safe, effective and cheap way of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. The powder should be sprayed on carpets and other areas of your house.

de-flea your pet, bomb you house, and (if you live in a cold place) leave the windows open at night to freeze them

I read in my "Hints from Heloise" book that green soap (like Irish Spring) will keep them off of you. I tried it, it kind of works.

Bug Bombs won't get rid of them, so don't waste your money.
