As the sun bloats into a red giant, Earth will roast to a cinder. Once the sun's surface arrives at the orbit of Earth, Earth will slow down from drag as it plows thru solar atmosphere and then it fall toward the center of the sun melting as it goes. If any eyes could see this display, Earth would make this last trip looking like a white hot comet. It might miss the direct center of the sun a couple of times, but it will surely wind up as molten iron at the center of the sun.

You should have about 4.5 billion years before this happens.

That 2012 stuff is a lot of hooey. It is based on the end of the Mayan calendar's "long count." It was supposed to happen in the year 2000 also. Are you too young to remember Y2K? The year 2000 came and went with nothing major.

Don't worry about it. When you have lived long enough you will notice that some crackpot is always coming up with some date for the world to end. It may, or may not end on 12/21/2012; but, if it does, it will have nothing to do with the Mayan calender, or anybody's prophecy.

they used to sacrifice people while they where alive to their gods

and you want to believe 2012, if they told you you needed to be sacrificed would you believe them too?

There are two theories:
One: Since stars get bigger and then explode, as they age (blows when it dies) it is said the the sun will get bigger and explode, but getting so big, it causes earth to move closer to it, and edventually burn up in the sun, but that will take millions of years.
Two: THe sun will edventually die out and the solar engergy will not be anymore and it will get to cold for Earth.

You and your friends put a great value on the "calendar predictions" made by a DEAD civilization.

Nothing will happen in 2012--------

No, I assure you.
It's just a popular date that has seemingly made it's way into our culture because of some "enlightened" mayan some years ago.

Think now, not then.

The answer to your question is no.

But if you insist on believing it, than all the other answerers are lying. I'm the one you should send all your money to, not them.

Make sure you send me all your money and the deed to your home the day before. I mean, you won't need those any longer, right?

whenever god wants the world to end, it will end. it will end because he needs to decide if each person needs to go to hell or heaven. if you get sent to heaven, you will live forever in heaven. if you land in hell, you will never die, but you get pain for the rest of your life. you will stay in either place forever. you will never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, die. before this happens, you will probably die. if you are dead, you will come up from your gravestone. if you are alive, you will immediately die.
