As an immigrant (legally) from the middle east and have friends from Europe, Americas image IS tarnished. We interfere with other countries for our capitalistic interests,(benefiting a select few not the nation as a whole). We want to cram our ideologies upon them without any respect or regards to their way of life.I'm all for changing our image by diplomatic means and by being a true leader thru FAIR trade, technology, compassion, and by NOT being hypocrites.

Individually most Europeans like Americans individually but internationally the image of America is really bad at the moment. America is seen as a arrogant, bully, tyrant, indifferent to the rights of people (death penalty and detention without trial), greedy ( a lot of people do not think that the war in Iraq was about anyhting other than Oil - also its seen as a failure), Bush is seen as stupid and is a laughing stock in most of Europe although Clinton was generally admired, I think the bad image has more to do with bush and politics than the American people and it is a sad state of affairs but the image of America is about the worst ever. Also one has to understand that Europe has seen great powers come and go and have learnt from their lessons that things change and no nation stays in the hotseat for ever and are a little irriated with the US carping on about being number one (when UK, Italy, Holland etc have all had their turn). They think it rather quaint really that the US as a young nation has this infallible believe that the world will stay as is. It doesn't. I think here in Europe we see the US as a young difficult teenager that needs to grow up a little and whose power will remain but not as number one (as it never does). And really the US isn't seen so much as the superpower anymore but more than the superpower in the process of becoming a power and the balnce of power here is seen as shifting to China (I think it was given about 10 years before China is the new Superpower). As for all the threats of war its seen as quite funny over here as nobody takes any military threat from the US too seriously for 2 reasons (a) The US is in so much debt they simply cannot afford another Iraq and is struggeling to finance the Iraq thing (b) Iraq is/was a resounding failure.
But that said we hope that Bush will leave and your new president will be a more intelligent and bring your countries finances back into control (as the world economy is all interlinked) and America back to being more of a compassionate and popular country.

America's image right now is great! We have told the world after 9-11 that you better not sponsor terrorism or have anything to do with it or else. Since we are in Iraq and Afghanistan we are showing that we will back that up. But our image is being more hurt where we are not doing anything like Venezuela, North Korea, Iran and Syria. They are aloud to run around try to get weapons of mass destruction and interfere with us worldwide and we are letting this happen! We need to let them know that we can do to them like we did to Iraq after he killed thousands of his own people and attempted to disrupt the Middleast with two wars. (Iran-1980-1988 and Kuwait-1991) Iraq also broke the treaty after the Gulf War 21 times before we did anything in 2003!

Against "changing the image" and keep on doing the right thing....... no matter what the weak-willed Europeans or hateful Islamo-Fascists may think.
Image and perception are fleeting emotions that change like the wind. History will either prove us right, or it will be a Muslim written history.

I equate American's image to a big dim playground bully that has picked on kids, stolen their lunch money, and beat them up with the teacher wasn't looking. But one day... his bullying tactics backfired and he ended up embarrassing himself worse than he had ever done to any of his victims and now the WHOLE school is laughing and pointing at him in his darkest hour. If they get the chance, they'll probably give him kick in the stomach as they walk by!!
Ummm... Yeah, I'm definitely for change!!!! A complete makeover is needed if this country has any desire to be a world power again!

I personally don't care what is America's image. People can think whatever they want about me or my country. Just don't mess with me.

‚America’ isn’t ‚America’.
We cannot answer this question because your term ‚America’ isn’t clear.
Which continent do you mean? North or South America? And which country in one of theese 2 continents called 'America'?
'America' for 'USA' is politically and geographically not correct.

You do realize you're just going to get people's opinions by asking on here right? Start with Wikipedia but don't use it as a source.
