i was working and getting ready to take patient out. i went back in the house and when i came out the dog was lose.he was not on the a regulaur chain. i did hire a laywer but what else can i do to protect myself. I have a deep gash in my foot and a few breaks in my skin and not counting the many times i'm scared of going outside because of another attack. I filed work mens com. and the lady that i work for told me that she does not care for "sue babys". but this would be the very frist time that i would. By law can she fire me and if she does do i have a law suit on her?

She can fire you at anytime, and for no reason. If you sue, you are weak. As long as your medical bills are paid, move on and don't sue.

If you were bit by a dog you need to call animal control and/or the police and file a report against the dog...that way if the dog has bitten before or does again in the future the proper authorities will handle what happens to the dog next. As for you, filing for worker's comp was probably the right thing to do...I can't imagine, from what you've said, that your medical bills are too much or that you had to stay off work to care for them. If you are afraid of the dog you shouldn't work there anymore. And you can be fired for ANYTHING and for no reason...if you have filed WC it should be harder to fire you but in your situation you probably will get fired and I can't imagine you getting a huge settlement if you were to win a case...your attorney will probably take the lion's share and leave you with just your medical bills paid...and it is a lot of hassle too.

You have done all the right things. You are entitled to workers compensation benefits. Use them. Hiring a lawyer is all right as well. That is what lawyers are for.

As for the future, you should phone the home where you are going and find out if there are any dogs. Let the people know they have to keep the dog secured when you are there.

Tell the lady you work for you don't care for dog bites.

Why did the dog bite you? Was it just one of those things? You scared it? Or is he really vicious?

Its likely they will kill the dog regardless. Just think about that, ok?

I'm sorry you got bit, but please don't milk it for more then you should.
