Now, before you go on a rampage, let me tell you that it is sick and disgusting for what they did. They all deserve punishment and to no longer be a priests.

However, priests are only one occupation. Most pedophiles are other occupations. You do not have to be a priest to be a pedophile, and becoming a priest doesn't make you a pedophile.

I know people hold them to a higher standard, but they're human beings. They are not gods. They are vulnerable just like any other human being. Becoming a priest does not turn you into an unemotional warrior monk.

Pedophiles are all bad and they are all disgusting. They all deserve the maximum punishments possible. However, I just hate how people make fun of priests and stuff like that just because a handful of them became pedophiles.

Anyone who is in a position of trust and uses that trust and loyalty to shatter innocence is forever damned. Unfortunately, more than a few bad apples spoiled this bunch. Cover-up reaches papal proportions.

They were pedophiles? Are you sure? How do you know?

I've done a fair amount of research into this topic. There's evidence that many of these men were not in fact pedophiles, but rather simply homosexuals with deep-seated, repressed feelings that were overcoming their judgment and leading them to this behavior.

And in response to the idea that they're received with disproportionate backlash, consider that the Catholic Church has historically made all sorts of judgments against normal (particularly sexual) human behavior (premarital sex, masturbation, etc.). The church was even against distributing condoms in areas where HIV/AIDS is a regional emergency because "premarital sex is a sin." Now, considering the priest scandals, it seems extremely hypocritical, doesn't it?

You make very good points otherwise though.

Because Priests are holyer than thou, and married to the church, having taken a vow of chastity.
They've looked after thousands of boys that have ended up in orphanages and during the war apparently been in charge of many youngsters that were evacuated,in many cases abusing them.
Don't get me wrong not all Priests are bad,but someone in that position, being a pedophile, that many look up to, are the worse kind.

I think a large part of the problem is that when people in "other occupations" are accused of pedophilia, they are not moved, in secrecy, to another city where they will continue to work for the same "company". For decades (and probably longer) pedophile preists were simply moved to a different parish and their past covered up by the diocese. That's insane.

Recently, a priest in our parish settled a case for $3 million for molesting a teen for three years. THere was documented evidence of his improper behavior with young men before he was transferred to our parish. sigh....

That is only what most people know. You're right. If you want to know what REAL evil is hidden beneath Catholicism, I suggest you read Eric Jon Phelps eye-opening book, "Vatican Assassins". Then you will realize pedophile priests are just part of the problem.

Isn't it obvious? They're supposed to be the link between ordinary people and God. They then clearly are trusted very highly and are supposed to show everyone the right way to live.
Sorry but this question just seems ignorant.

maybe its because of the whole "abusing" a supposedly sacred office, and the fact that they purposely sought out employment that would give them proximity to little boys to molest. maybe, just maybe, that's it.
