My laptop screen is darker than normal.. how can i fix it?

it has done this once before but at that time it was hot.. and i have restarted it a few times..and its not hot atm

there are 2 keys on the laptop keyboard to brighten or darken the screen. Usually you also have to press the FN or function key while pressing them

press FN+Brighter, or
AC adapter is unfunctional or
LCD is malfunction.
