What do you think? Everywhere I go there's something about sports and athletics. On Disney Channel, they air these commercials about getting out and play, and so does Nickelodeon, but no one ever talks about education or learning. Should we put more emphasis on education and knowledge for our future generations?

I think emphasis is already being put on education and learning. The reason there are commercials to get kids to play and exersize is because there is an obesity epidemic. School have been cutting gym class and kids are watching more TV. The are aiming to keep kids healthy, not nessasarily and athelete.

I agree with you and pathfinder. I think sports are pushed too much and then people spend too much time playing sports than homework or projects or stuff like that. They should make more comments on TV about education, but still some about being active because that is important, too. They just kinda overdo the whole sports thing, I think. The main reason they are pushing that though is because of America's obesity problem (which is partly because of technology). So they figure if they put that stuff on TV, more kids will see it and then go outside or something.

of course not, you know, in the world of Marketing or business, companies like Disney and nickelodeon sees that there is a market emerging in the field of sports. Its not really mean that we are putting too much pressure on athletics, its just that we also give priority to the people that gives us pride whenever they win on sports contest. Keep in mind that everyone of us deserves an appreciation. Good luck and God bless.

Yes, I think they do, and I also think professional athletes make HORRIBLE role models. I think it's ridiculous, especially, when people force their toddlers/young children to join sports. What three year old really NEEDS to play soccer or gymnastics? When I was a kid (mid-70s and early 80s) I played outside with friends, rode my bike, walked through the woods, etc., and I'm neither fat nor a criminal. The education system today is even worse than it was when I was a child. MUCH worse.

Both education and exercise are lacking more and more as technology advances. Overall, people are becoming smarter, because that's a natural tendency. But they're not becoming wiser. And they're becoming a lot fatter.

There can never be too much emphasis on physical activity when obesity is such a national emergency.

I believe that these TV networks are not exactly putting pressure on athletis but to the people around the contry to do something. The obesity level is still increasing and i believe that they are doing a good thing doing this for the kids so hopefully, they will listen andhelp minimize the obesity level.

You mean putting too much emphasis on sports and not enough on the really important things like higher education.

I think there is a need to get the kids out of the house and exercising the child obesity rate is extremely high..too much fast food and too much home based activities such as the computer..wii..play station etc...they need to get out and play and use their imaginations ,get fresh air ,and learn team spirit..

In recent news there has been things about obesity rates being high in children and adults the disney channel ads are probably steering towards that. but in high schools they are stressing teens to join sports...but i personally think that they work them too har....they are still relativly kids and they need to loosen up...i think that they also stress weigt by eating "healthier" but the food they tell them to eat is noso heatlhy it is a loose win situation

I think the emphasis is a reaction to America's obesity problem. It is well-justified. I encourage my son to exercise and study rather than just one or the other.
