A friend of mine and I were talking about the virgin Mary, and he mentioned that it is possble, but of course VERY rare, that a woman can get pregnant without sperm. Though this can only result in the birth of a girl as women do not posess the y chromosome needed to produce a baby boy. (Thus having nothing to do with the birth of Jesus, but this isn't my point)
I did some internet searching and found a site where it mentioned an Australian scientist discovered a way to fertalize eggs without sperm, using somatic cells in the body. The cell has two sets of chromosomes, so they need to separate the cell to contain only one set, so it can properly fertalze the egg.
This doesn't confirm my friend's statement, however, as this process requires an outside force, and doesn't sound like it could happen naturally, which was his point all together.
I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of this before, and if they know anything about becoming pregnant naturally without sperm.

No.
Not without some serious genetic intervention that probably wouldn't even result in anything that survived to be a viable offspring, but honestly I'd have to see the website about someone who did this.
There are quite obviously many other animal species that have evolved haplo-diploidy in which an egg doesn't need to fertilized in order to hatch, and all unfertilized eggs are female, whereas fertilized eggs are male.
In order for development to occur with a human (and pretty much all other mammals) egg, though there HAS to be fertilization. You can't have an egg spontaneously develop that is chromosomally deficient.
If this was even remotely possible, there would be at least one case of it happening in (scientific) history outside of an allegorical story, and there isn't.
So.. again, the simplest answer to your question is: No.
PS/Edit: Flowers are NOT the only organisms that reproduce asexually. So can Fungi (NOT a plant), protozoans, bacteria, yeast, viruses, sponges (animals), some cnidarians, flatworms, etc.

The process your friend is talking about is known as Parthenogenesis. It cannot happen, or at least there has been no documented happenings in humans... however some animals and many plants can do this. So, no humans cannot get pregnant without Male chromosomes (which come from the sperm cell)

In biology, parthenogenesis is the process by which a female produces eggs which then develop w/out fertilization. This type is considered to be a form of asexual reproduction, & is found in Whiptails (a type of lizard; genus: Aspidoscelis) & aphids.
In a related form of reproduction, called gynogenesis, the egg must be stimulated to develop by the presence of sperm. However, none of the sperm's DNA is contributed to the offspring (for example, some salamanders in the genus Ambystoma).
A third type of reproduction, called hybridogenesis is considered "hemiclonal"—1/2 the parents’ genome is passed to the offspring, i.e. the females mate w/ males & both contribute genetic material to their offspring, but when those offspring produce eggs, their father’s genetic material is discarded & the eggs have only their mother’s genes.
As for human cases of becoming pregnant naturally w/out sperm, I've never heard of it happening. I've heard that some people can hope/believe they're pregnant so strongly that their bodies supposedly begin to imitate signs of pregnancy, but I know very little abt that, as it's not my area of study.
Hope this helps!

If you have been struggling to fall pregnant, there are some useful tips that may help to increase your chances of conceiving and prevent miscarriages. Read here https://tr.im/infertilitycure
Follow a healthy, balanced diet by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as foods that are rich in iron, calcium and folate, essential for reproductive health
Maintain a healthy weight as being overweight or underweight can affect the body’s hormone levels which in turn makes conception difficult
Healthy weight loss can increase chances of getting pregnant; however, too much weight loss can affect a healthy pregnancy
Regular exercise such as walking, swimming or cycling will help keep you fit and active before and during your pregnancy. It will also help get you back into shape after the pregnancy
Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine as this can make you less fertile

It (or, at least, one possible form) is called parthenogenesis.
It is apparently very rare in mammals and there are no documented 'spontaneous' case in humans. There may have been one case in August 2007 in an experiment by a Korean scientist who had discredited himself earlier by faking stem-cell results; the fact that he had discredited himself earlier does not make new claims automatically fake, only more difficult to believe (However, this one has, apparently, been independently checked and verified).
I remember, though, hearing the story the same way that your friend heard it, a few decades ago. I even remember hearing that the rate of female humans born that way could be as high as 2 per million.
However, there is something in the human genome that prevents (or, at the very least, hinders) the normal development of cells (otherwise, we'd be forever cloning ourselves naturally).
So, like your friend, I'll have to accept the more recent scientific evidence and realise that parthenogenesis is NOT a viable process.

That sounds like cloning instead of giving birth to a baby. Because the baby would probably have the exact same, if not all, genetics from the mother if no y chromosomes were involved. It doesn't make sense because that's like something out of the ordinary, really. You NEED some substance or something to fertilize the egg in order to give birth to a baby. If you did an internet searching and found that site about the Australian scientist who discovered to fertilize an embryo without sperm, you could have put it on your source section. Otherwise, your question and your explanation is basically ridiculous.

That's why the story of Jesus Christ is exactally that, A STORY! It is the biggest B.S. story of all time same with God. Not once ounce of proof that anything in The Bible happened or is true. Unfortunately, if people would use common sense they would understand that a virgin cannot magically become pregnant by a make believe nothing. So once you understand it was absolutely impossible for Mary to become pregnant without intercourse you HAVE TO come to the conclusion that Jesus Christ is a made up story along with all the other fantastical stories. Remember this, Extraordinary Claims requires Extraordinary evidence. Once you study and learn about the lack of education of the people of that time, you understand these are nothing but embellished stories made up by people who did not understand anything about the world they lived in nor did they have the access or tool to understand the world they lived in. Once you understand the ignorance of these sand dwellers, you can see none of this was true.

I wonder still if this had happened to me. My body was reacting as if I was pregnant, although I was not having physical sex with any men. I was in love with a man named "Jon Ashton" and it felt like I was pregnant. Later, my body had all of the symptoms of pregnancy including enlarged breasts and tenderness, puffy stomach and weight gain including an enlarged cervix. I had also been experiencing labor contractions except no real baby was coming out of my body. My gynecologist had performed a Leep Procedure on my cervix telling me that I may have had cancer. Instead, he took out about one and a half inches of my cervix where there was a thickening. I thought he was only going to take less than a centimeter from my cervix away. What was inside that large portion of my cervix? Did a baby grow from an immaculate conception inside my body? The doctor refuses to tell me what he had found and why he took out so much of my cervix. Could I have gotten pregnant from falling in love without having sex? No one is telling me what happened. And the Catholic Church is also being quiet not letting me no what is going on. Do they know about it? If I did have a baby without having sex, who has that baby now? Was my baby stolen from my body? I am mad because it would be a special child. And that baby is mine.
