Engine light came on this morning, car was fine and running until I got onto the HYW, than it started to shake and stolled twice. Drivers manuel says either it is the fuel pump dispenser control, or the fuel pump fuze. If it is the fuel pump the car would not have started period, and I checked the fuzes and they are also fine. Any one out there have a clue as to what the problem might be. Your help is appriciated. My Car is a 2003 Misubishi Lancor, and I have driven approxiamatley 83000 Kilometers on it. Thanks

On newer cars when the engine light comes on you should always bring them to a service station. They have testers they can plug into the cars computer that will tell you exactly what's wrong. I have a 1994 Jeep and they did that for me a few weeks ago at a Jeep dealership, so I'm sure they'd be able to do that at a Mitsubishi dealership.

About your car, I'm in no way an expert but if something like that happens I'd bring it right into a shop. Even if the engine light came on and that happened, it doesn't mean they are related, but they probably are. The shaking could have been caused by something else, like a faulty U-joint or transfer case, and it could have caused the battery terminal to come loose, which caused the car to stall. But you never really know. It's got pretty low mileage so I don't think anything could be wrong with the engine itself, but like other people have been saying, could be a fuel pump. You live up in Canada and the weather is getting cold so maybe it's the radiator. Could be a lot of things.

You also didn't say if you ever got your car to start again. If you didn't then how much gas did you have in the tank? If it was less then a quarter then you could have just plain run out of gas. In really cold weather, gas vapors evaporate quick and the instruments can get messed up and read a lot higher then there actually is in the tank. Try to keep the gauge above 1/2 tank in the winter, especially up in Canada, so you don't run into this problem.

But the only way to really find out is to bring it into a shop and ask them to check the whole thing out. It might cost $100 or so just to find the problem, and then you can move on from there and decide what to do.

check the fuel line. There maybe be some sediment in the line of in the fuel filter and you wouldn't notice until you need the extra fuel. Actually a fuel pump could be going out and the car will start but its dieing on you.

Engine light is on because there is a problem as you have just found out. Type of car really isn`t an issue here. The real consern is now what kind of damage has been done on the motor. You will need to have it towed to your nearest autoshop for inspection. Hope it will be something simple.

It's not the fuse or it would not run at all. Since it runs intermittently it could be the fuel pump. The fuse is either good or bad, but the fuel pump can come and go.

the car WIIL start with a faulty fuel pump !!! you need to have a pressure test done to correctly diagnose a fuel pump... On the hwy the fuel pump may not be creating enough pressure to deliver the correct amount of fuel

If the engine light is on then take your car to either an Advance Auto or an Auto Zone. They will put a tester on your car for free and tell you what code the car is spitting out.
This might tell them exactly what is wrong.

you will prefer a load tester to envision the battery and then examine the alternator output. If it passes the burden try then the alternator could be putting out 14.5 Volts and the alternator is working effective. Then the unfavorable or helpful cord to the starter and the floor perhaps unfastened. that would reason all your indications. examine the relationship.

It could be your fuel pick-up is fouled or partially blocked.also there are several fuel/air ratio meters and air flow meters which can cause this problem. The Mass Airflow sensor will cause similar problems to the one you are having.
