A couple of Chinese citizens we're speaking pro democracy, but this company, Yahoo, gave all their information so that the government can detain them and did. Lets see if this question gets banned. I say we all go to google. SO THIS IS A QUESTION! WHAT DO YOU THINK OF WHAT YAHOO DID?

Yahoo, if you ban me your just proving how communist you are and there isn't a way you can keep me from spreading the word on your own website.

Well do you think it was Yahoo here in the US or Yahoo employees in China where it probably means that any Yahoo employee would get in trouble if they didn't report them?
Remember during the third Reich when you had to report people and if you didn't you'd be sent to the concentration camp yourself?
It's not as easy living there as it is over here!

I think they merely complied with Chinese law. If they don't do what the Chinese government says they have to do, then they don't get to operate in China. They are REQUIRED to submit that information, when users are in violation of the law.

China is not the only country that has limitations on what Yahoo can or cannot allow to be posted on their sites. For example, in most (all?) western nations, you can't post child pornography...And if you did, I would hope that Yahoo would send your personal info to the authorities.

I'm sure you want them to uphold the laws in your home country...you need to understand that they have to do the same everywhere they are.

The good news is that here in the U.S., you have the right to say just about anything you want, including the fact that you think Yahoo! is a communist-friendly organization.

It is awful what Yahoo did, but this is what corporations do -- sacrifice human rights for money. It has nothing to do with being a communist, liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, etc. China is a big market now, so many companies, including Yahoo, are lining up to kiss China's collective backsides. I despise what Yahoo did, but I'm positive other companies would have done the same thing. It took weeks and valid protests, for example, for Google (i.e., Google Maps) to designate Taiwan (a sovereign democratic nation) as a country instead of a province of China.

Complying with the law, whether you agree with the law or not, does not in and of itself make you (in this case, Yahoo!) Communist.
I think it is a travesty. So, write, e-mail, or phone your Congress people and tell them to remove China's "Favored Nation Trade Status" (whatever it's official title is). I wrote hoping Congress would have the sense not to grant it, but Politicians are run by the Liberals, so it was passed.

The only 2 ways to get China to grant people human rights is to either defeat in militarily or to quit giving them equal rights (actually, more rights than American companies).

Another option, for all the good it would do, would be to send the Red Chinese a statement signed by millions of people. It has worked in the past...If they realize Americans won't buy their crappy products if they don't clean up their acts, they will quickly clean up. After all, America is almost a full third of the entire world's economy.

Yahoo China has to comply with Chinese law, I'm sorry to say, just as they do in every other country in which they operate. Yahoo US does not have a problem with what those people are saying, but Yahoo China does. That's how it goes with international business. Google will do it too.

If Yahoo honours the laws of the country in which they operate, that does not make them Communist.

If Yahoo were in the business of standing up for a particular form of government, then I would expect them to refuse China's request. As it happens, though, Yahoo is not in that business. I reckon they did what any reasonable company would.

Yeah it was all over the news a few weeks ago. Yahoo also ran the story. They did what they had to do by law and did not wish to do so.

OK Yahoo! I sucked up, can I have my ID back now?

I think that is terrible.

Sometimes, a family member emails me things like survival sites & info & I won't get it for days. I bet yahoo does it to all of us.
