Its not actually green day's song, its John Lennon's(the beatles :)

Well green day covered this song for the Instant Karma:Campaign to Save Darfur CD..

There is a genecide going on In Darfur, Sudan.. Where the higher class people are fighting this song.

The song kinda goes along with the genocide.. And the song is supporting the underdogs(the tribal people who are getting killed)

Thats why they chose to cover this song :)

Hope that helped!

well that is a John Lennon song from the early 70's and knowing him its about what was going on in the world at that time. He was very outspoken on political issues and the Vietnam War. I barely remember the song, it didn't get much air play, and he cussed alot in it so I really only listened to it a few times, but anyway its his vision, not Green Day's!

It's a cover of The Beatles, though. The Beatles seemed to aim for a political message. Green Day covered it for a CD campaign to help out Darfur.

that's john lennon's song. and here is the wiki quote on why green day covered it:
"When asked why they chose the song, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said, "We wanted to do 'Working Class Hero' because its themes of alienation, class, and social status really resonated with us. It's such a raw, aggressive song -- just that line: 'you're still ******* peasants as far as I can see' -- we felt we could really sink our teeth into it. I hope we've done him justice"

The same groupe of people John Lennon targeted it for when he originally wrote it "The Working Class ".
