America has a single party that goes by 2 names. The elites own this country and we have to pick from who ever they decide will serve them best. They trick us by letting us think we have a choice.

I can only give you my opinion based upon all those years of public schooling and college and graduate school, including several courses in Civics, Government, et al and my life's experience.
Two (2) parties give people a SLIGHT difference in their choice (yes, sometimes a big difference, sometimes not difference at all in their viewpoints). With 3 or more parties, it is too difficult to come to a concensus, an agreement. With 2 parties, hopefully one will have a majority (50% or more); with 3 parties, it would be much more difficult to have 50% or more (of the popular vote or agreement amongst themselves, etc.)
With 4 parties, each could conceivably have 25%; with 5 parties, 20%. In other words, the more parties, the less likelihood that one party would have 50% or more of the vote. That is not a sound idea for politics; in a natural or man-caused disaster, it could seriously undermine our nation's ability to respond in a timely matter (such things as Hurricane Katrina --- me, I blame the people who want to live BELOW SEA LEVEL in a place that is almost always hit by a hurricane --- and the 9/1/1)
Hope this helps...

America is in fact not a 2 party system. There are many different political parties.
What has happened in America, though, is that the priorities of Americans are not so very different and life in America is quite comfortable for the vast majority of people.
Should America find itself in a crisis, you would likely see more parties gaining more votes.
Republicans and Democrats differ greatly in rhetoric, but little in practice. More parties gaining more votes would allow for elections in which a minority of Americans could select a President over a fractured Majority.
You could go further with this by reading up on what it means for a President to have a direct mandate.
