I just bought an HP pavilion dv6605us. I would like to buy a 24 inch monitor (1920x1200 resolution). how do i find out if my new laptop can support that type of resolution if i connect the two?

It's just an outgoing signal, so your laptop doesn't actually need to "support" the resolution you would have displayed on the monitor (provided you were ok with them running at different resolutions each, which is entirely doable).

Your video card needs to support that resolution. Even if your laptop screen don't support the resolution your wanting your video card needs to. So look at your specification for your video card and see what the MAX resolution it supports. Dont get wide screen if the card wont support it as it will look like crap and you'll never be happy with it (stretched versus the actual resolution that is).

Any laptop should work with any monitor. If its hi resolution you may get some distortion.
