I get thumbs down all the time on facts. No idea why, other than someone is annoyed that I get it before them.
As for the opinions getting a thumbs-down, I think it's because some people have difficulty getting it through their head that their opinion isn't the "right" answer. If you dare to disagree with them about a player, a team, or whatever, you're going to get that negative thumb. Any question regarding the Yankees or Red Sox inevitably turns into a thumbs-down festival regardless of the fact that everyone is doing nothing more than voicing an opinion.

I only will give thumbs downs when somebody answers the question at hand wrong. The opinions are just that, I voice mine all the time about who should be the best, who is the best, and who will be the best and I only expect everybody else does too! If you ask who is the best defensive SS and tell you Tulowizki because of his FP of .980 and where he got the Rockies based on his defensive play, and somebody comes in and says Tejada because he his over .300 and never strikes out, which somebody actually did post that on a question like that...then yes I will give it a thumbs down because that doesnt answer the question...it is an opinion and the wrong one at that!

Beats me. I'll give a thumbs down on an incorrect fact or simple rudeness, but not because someone likes his Red Sox more than my Yankees. That seems juvenile to me.

Don't take the thumbs down seriously. I get them all the time: opinions, facts, jokes. It doesn't make any never mind. If you say, "I like Curt Granderson" someone who likes Grady Sizemore might give you the thumbs down. Or if you say, "Barry Bonds has 762 home runs" they might thumbs down you because they don't like Bonds. All over Yahoo!answers there are thumbs down from silly people who think they're funny. I take it as a sign that I burned somebody off. It's a badge of 'gotcha!' and nothing to be concerned about.

Yes I admit that i do sometimes. If someone is too opinionated that they are contributing nothing to the section, i do give it a thumbs down. But, whether i favor their opinion or not, if it is educated, i give it a thumbs up.
I just ask for some knowledge and effort
=)

It seems people give thumbs down for several reasons...they disagree with/don't like your opinion, don't think you answer is right, are a fan of your rival team, are a person who just gives thumbs down to everyone, etc...personally, I give thumbs down when someone doesn't have the facts right or if their answer is mean/uncalled for.

Thumbs down dont bug me at all.
In fact I think they are quite funny when I get them.
About the only time I thumbs down is when people say that pete rose belongs in the hall of fame. Because they are not REAL baseball fans, or if the answer is completely kindergardernish.

I agree with you completely. They will give thumbs down even when the facts are right in their faces. They take this board wayyyyy too seriously & even report ppl for the crime of congratulating a team for winning a playoff game. People like that i have no respect for whatsoever b/c they seem to not like good sportsmanship or take this section too seriously as if they are going to win a prize for getting the most points getting a top contributor badge & reporting ppl for the most stupidest things. They seem to get upset b/c i don't act like them. Wanting to hate & insult ppl for the team they like.

i love to talk about baseball, and i cant have like,an hour long conversation about baseball with one of my friends, because they're just not into it as much as i am.I just feel like,if i want to talk about baseball then this is where i can talk about it with people who love it like i do.So if I hear that someone loves the Cubs -cause im a white sox fan- then i just like to joke alot with people saying that they're going to have to wait another 100 years and stuff like that(although i do love the Go Cubs Go song). But i dont think of that as anything bad.I mean my best friend is a Cubs fan but were still friends. But i do see that happen a lot with the Red Sox/Yankees and people doing that.
