Ok so tomorrow I'm supposed to participate in a charity event where I stand out on the street corner in 2 - 4 hour shifts and collect money. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and nervous that maybe that's not the best thing to do in my last trimester...I'd ask my doc but I don't see him til Tuesday...Oh also I'm in Michigan and it's suppose to be snowing and 27 degrees tomorrow...Thanks for your input

I assume you will not be doing this alone? If you are, then don't do it. If you have company, take a chair at the very least. 2 hours max, not four and only once in the day. But really, you already know this isn't sensible, but if you are committed to it and in good health with no swollen ankles or circulation problems, then take sensible precautions and call it a day if you feel even remotely unwell or cold. I would be very surprised if you could manage 2 hours, let alone 4, without a visit to the bathroom in your condition! Don't take any chances if the weather is foul. All the best.

I'm in MI too so I know the weather that is on the way for tomorrow and its supposed to get pretty nasty out. Participation in a charity event is a nice way to help out, especially around the holidays, but this does not sound like an event for a pregnant woman. What if you slip and fall in the street?? Maybe you could find a warmer place where you could volunteer your time while sitting down? LOL I'm 36 weeks pregnant myself and as much as I would like to help out during this Christmas season, there are just some things that can't be done and this is one of them that you shouldnt participate in. Good Luck to you!!

Although you could participate if you really wanted to I wouldnt. It's going to be cold and snowing which isnt good weather to be standing in considering you are pregnant and your immune system is weaker. You will most likely be uncomfortable and probably won't want to stand even for a 2-4 hr shift. You will be around people that you can't trust and you don't know which could also be dangerous. It is your last trimester I would just take it easy and relax as much as you can :).

I don't think it's an issue of being overprotective...I think it's an issue with understanding your limits.

It's not likely to hurt the baby much, but considering you're carrying around another human, it's all too easy to tire yourself out.

If you have the opportunity, speak to the people who are organizing the event. Make sure that there's someone else working there with you, and ask if you can have a folding chair nearby, in order to take regular breaks.

I'm sure they would also completely understand if you have to back out. Nobody wants to be outside in the snow, and they would probably feel particularly bad asking a pregnant woman to do so.

I would see if you can either bring a chair with you or not do it at all. Standing in one spot for a long time while pregnant is not a good idea with all the swelling that we get.

Maybe you can help the charity out in another way?

As much as we would all like to be involved in charity work, sweetie you just can't risk your health like that. Not to mention the possibility of getting hit by a car or something. If you still want to be involved talk to the organizers and see if you can do any "office" type work instead. You could probably help them with the accounting part of it.

God bless you for your charity work and congrats on your baby!!

Knowing the conditions outside I would say it better safe than sorry. God forbid you go and slip, and you will be standing for so long in the cold. I wouldn't do it if I were you. I would try and participate in some other aspect of the charity. Good luck.

If I was you I would just stay in my warm house. YOu will get tired of standing, because you are carrying a baby! No you arent being over protective, your well being comes first when you are pregnant.

Write a check to the charity and call it a day.

I think you already know this is not a very good idea, but if you need reassurance from us. You seem to be getting it. That is too long to be out there in that cold and too long to be on your feet straight.

good luck!
