I only comment if I like the poem. While that may be viewed as not being fair, I would rather not hurt the poet's feelings by giving a negative critique. And as there are many types of poems and poets, who am I to be the ultimate judge. I still view Emily as one of the best.

Most of the poems people publish on here are amaturish, which is a nicer way of saying, they are really terrible. The people writing them are clearly just writing down whatever pops into their heads without any thought of poetry as an art form. There is really nothing constructive you can say about the vast majority of poems people post on this forum.

Other times, people post questions that are obviously taken directly from their class assignments. I don't mind helping folks with their homework, but most of the people posting on here aren't asking for help understanding a poem, they are trying to get people to post responses they will be able to cut and paste and turn in for a grade. I could care less if people cheat on their poetry homework, but I am not going to spend my own time helping them, and I think that is probably how most people feel about it.

Probably because people put poetry on here for others to read and respond to with "I like it" or "I don't like it" and nobody really wants to be considered like a critic. Everybody's more or less equal. But I like to play with it intuitively speaking, and respond to certain people for whom a response might make the difference between self-expression or self-suppression. I take a stand against suppression of any kind.

as this is the first time I have come to this section I can only say I think they want you to rate it or say if you like it or not!

if I were to post to this it would be a piece asking what people think or a piece of maybe Shakespeare asking if any can translate it! or if they knew what was being said any way
