I read everything I can get my hands on..always have...but I continuously go back to Stephen King and I have everything he's ever published. My style of reading is typically more like yours. His books are a bit different than you're accustomed to but I think with your taste you'll enjoy them.
I'm the type of person that if I get two chapters into a book and I can freely sit it down and go about doing something else, it's not a good book.
Read just one of his books. I'm trying to think of the best one for you to start with...... You've given a good variety of what you normally read for me to judge your taste. That's helpful.
I think you should pick from these four....Bag Of Bones....Needful Things.....IT....or The Dark Half. Some of these books have been adapted to the movie screen. They are NOTHING like the novels. Storm of the Century is good as well if you just want to start out being freaked out!
Stay away from Black House....Geralds Game...and Desperation. They suck. King also writes under the name Richard Bachman....they suck as well.
I discovered King years ago after Needful things was suggested to me by a friend. That's the one that hooked me.
His books are fabulous because he always uses the philosophy that the book is about "ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances." He is a master story teller. Give one of those a shot and let me know what you think.

Try reading The Giver. That is one good book. If not try reading some of Steven King's books.
