The Blair Witch Project is a movie. It was an independent film a couple of film students made. They took 3 actors out into the woods and made a film with just a rough outline, no script, and used the townspeople where they were shooting as extras. They invented a story called "the Legend of the Blair Witch" and asked leading questions of their actors and extras and let them improvise their parts.
The story is about 3 film students investigating the legend of the Blair Witch and mysterious goings on in the woods.
It won several awards at various film competitions and picked up a national distributor. It was hyped beyond belief before it hit the theaters and was financially successful. It was followed up by a really bad sequel created by the film distributor who wanted suck up more money from the success of the original movie. None of the cast and crew from the original movie had anything to do with the sequel.

It is a movie about kids who investigate a witch called the Blair witch. They go into the woods to make a documentary about the witch and never come out again, but later the videos they created are discovered and made public. It is fiction, but when first presented in the 90's they attempted to make people believe the videos were authentic. ;-)

at the end they all die.
there are 2 movies. "blair witch project( also known as "blair witch project, the original" and "blair witch project 2".
the "original" is actually filmed in a way that it really looksa as if the film was a documentary( you know, like a normal video recorder)
the second movie is the "remake" of the "original".
i saw the first and second one... ill have to say that the "original" scared me most becaus eof the way it was filmed.. it looked real. but then again, i looke dit up and it wasnt true. but if you need more information, go here:

The Blair Witch Project is a horror film. The narrative is presented as a documentary pieced together from amateur footage. It tells the story of three young student filmmakers who get lost in the woods while filming a documentary about the eponymous local legend. After being terrorized by an unseen presence for several days, they mysteriously disappear. Neither the students nor their bodies are ever found, although their video and sound equipment (along with most of the footage they shot) is eventually recovered, several feet under a building foundation that was laid at least a century earlier.
The Blair Witch movie included allusions to the Salem Witch Trials and The Bell Witch legend.
The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings before local magistrates followed by county court trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in Essex, Suffolk and Middlesex Counties of colonial Massachusetts, in 1692 and 1693. Between February 1692 and May 1693, over 150 people were arrested and imprisoned. The two courts convicted 29 people of the capital felony of witchcraft, 19 of whom (fourteen women, five men) were hanged. One other man, having refused to enter a plea, died under judicial torture to extract one from him, and at least five more of the accused died in prison.

The Bell Witch is a ghost story from American Southern Folklore. The legend of the Bell Witch, also called the Bell Witch Haunting, revolves around strange events allegedly experienced by the Bell family of Adams, Tennessee, in 1817–1821.
