A GED is sort of a diploma that is given to students after taking a relatively simple test. It is a very inferior product and many employers look at it from the point of view of the GED being for dropouts who cannot complete what hey started.

Many colleges require in addition to a high school diploma that a student pass a certain number of classes in various subjects or categories. This is almost always missing with those who hold a GED,

General education usually refers to the requirements that all college/university students must fulfill in order to earn a "4 year" degree, like a bachelor's degree not matter what they major in. Some community colleges might offer a 2-year Associates degree and call it a general education degree. A diploma refers to secondary education, high school,completion. High schools may offer differing diplomas according to the academic strength of the program you completed--like if you took A.P. courses. Hope this helps!

GED: you can take a test if you didn't grad from high school and get the equivalent diploma if you pass that test. You need one or the other to get in to college.
