nah, you are just falling in love with the idea of who you talk to...not the real person.

People say it has happened to them and swear it is real. Some have even married, having first met on-line.
Personally, though, I've had too many experiences where my perception of the person changed after I met them in person. There are so many other things that go on when two people communicate besides the exchange of words on a page, ideas, or words spoken over the phone. There is definately something to be said for animal magnetism, charisma and chemistry which may come through body language or even hormones transmitted by smell, touch, taste, or other channel.
So I do not discourage relationships forming over Instant Messenger, but for those who seriously believe that this is all that is needed for a true and lasting love, I would say they don't have the full equation in their proclamation "this is love" before they actually meet the person face-to-face and have significant time to interact in the same physical location.
Mail-order brides would have you believe that love over IM is absolutely possible. However, I would say there is a different agenda there and it usually is to get away from their family, to become entitled to more via marriage, or to move to a better country...versus actually finding their "one true love" over internet.

No, no no. You're not dealing with reality - conversation isn't as instant as a real one - you can delete and rethink your answer for instance, so even more than is usual you are dealing with a projected idea of a person. And your own brain will fill in the blanks (positively) for you if you want to fall in love, or are at least open to it so your normal sense of judgement is skewed. And obviously, you haven't seen/met them yet. Looks may not be the be all and end all, but actual chemistry is, and you can't get any feel for that electronically. It's all in the chemicals...

Not a chance in the world. You or the other person could be lying or not telling the truth about yourself to each other. In addition until you have actually met face to face it is quite impossible to even say that you truly like the person. Certainly one can become confused and/or very interested with another but falling in love on line is not only unprovable but also impossible.

Only if you meet! If you don't...quite frankly it's all an illusion. Anyone can paint themselves in a pretty picture online. For example....I was talking with this guy on MySpace....we talked what seemed to be constantly for a couple months. I enjoyed our conversations a lot and thought that this could be someone I'd be interested in dating. We eventually met. When we met....he was just as nice, but VERY needy. He was more infatuated with me....he started in with the "L" word the day we actually met. You just don't know what you're getting till you actually meet and spend some time with them in person!!

No believe me your mind is just infatuated with a person you think you know but you really don't. You have to be involved in that person's life and know who they really are in order to fall in love.

I don't know but it would seem to be a more genuine love if anyone did because you'd know the person for who they are not what they look like.

Sure, but you're falling in love with someone that you don't really know...when you are around their friends, ect...they may act differently...and once you meet them in person...they could be totally different...because online...they can say some of the sweetest things and absolutley melt your heart...just dont' get ur expectations too high, it might not be waht you thought it was
