run just fine... BUT the rest of the Government is in crisis?
Is it because the Military runs essentially with a TOP DOWN method of rule?

Democracy is supposed to be government from the bottom up

We are a "representative democracy" The Declaration of Indepedence, the Bill of Rights & the Constitution support that concept whether the actual words are used or not.
and the founders did debate "mobocracy' and that is why we have the 3 branches of Government ment to supply checks & balances.

This is not meant as an attack on the military in any way... remember it was Eisenhower who said "...beware of the military-industrial complex..."

The military & the rest of the government use the same type of oversight... auditors that examine what is happening. Civilian contractors that support military and government offices also have that oversite. [not that it is perfect]

The military has its own bureaucratic issues, but it has a budget big enough, and personnel good enough, that they are able to break things and kill people quite effectively.
There's a lot of waste in the military, and a lot of red tape when it comes to procurement and procedure, etc. But the military is perhaps more vigilant about it because if something's messed up, it could get them killed.
I'm not sure what you exactly mean by your assertion that we allegedly feel the rest of government is in crisis. Perhaps you could explain.
If you mean the general reality-based belief that government is inefficient and wasteful, all bureaucracies are, and the military bureaucracy is no different. But there's one difference - the military people have a real and personal vested interest in successful outcomes because it's their lives on the line.
Unlike most other bureaucracies and government agencies.

Duuude, read the Constitution and tell me where it says the US is a democracy. It doesn't. This country was never founded as a democracy. The founders were vehemently against mobocracy.

These two things run well because they are still run by people who think it is honorable to stand for something.
Service to others attracts the best among us, who are willing to sacrifice a little in their personal lives, sometimes even their lives themselves, in order to make our world a little safer.
When did self-indulgence get to be the "greatest good".
If more of us were willing to put everything on the line for the good of the country or society, this would be a much better place.
I believe that we owe those who are willing to do this great service for the rest of us, a huge debt.
I believe that most of the support the troops slogans that are going around right now are much the same as the old derisive remarks that used to go around about black people, ie, " I'm not prejudiced, don't I allow a black to clean my house and raise my child."
This type of attitude is more of an insult than saying nothing.
It used to be called,"damned with faint praise".
Treating people in the service or cops as if they are stupid and somehow not bright enough to know better, and then saying, " we support the troops" is such a huge insult.
These things work because the people who actually do the work, want them to.
The same cannot be said for other government employees.
It's a whole different mindset.

Because the military and our law enforcement officers tend to get things done. If they don't, you can always track the reason back to Washington or the state governments.
Contrast this with just about any other governmental agency you'd care to name. How's the department of education doing? How's the IRS working? How's the line down at your DMV.
You ask why? I can't answer that. Maybe when folks put their lives on the line they take their job a bit more seriously. Then too, because of what's at stake they tend to do their job better. Maybe it's because these other governmental bodies are full of folks just looking for job security and such jobs tend to attract the mediocre.
So, why is it that most liberals have nothing but disgust and disdain for those who put their lives on the line to protect you, our nation and the freedoms we enjoy and think that those useless slugs in the welfare office are the cat's pajamas?

Peanut said it better than I could...but I think it may also be because more conservatives then libs served in the military. I was in the U.S. Marines and I can tell you that they run a tight ship...they work their asses off...lots of snap and pop for the money so to speak. The military by it's nature must be efficient and fairly lean and mean to be an effective fighting force...now having said that they are not immune to beurcratic snafus but over all the military is hard to beat.

Because they think strong-arming everyone is the only way to get things accomplished, even though it is responsible for over half of our problems.
Also, they think people of other countries deserve our tax dollars more than Americans do. This is evident in the fact that they compare Americans having $2 in their pocket unable to afford to feed their families, as being wealthier than people in other countries where that $2 would feed them for a month.
Its easier to deal with the poor by giving them your garbage for a tax write off, than it is to actually try to fix the problem.
