Is anybody surprised to see Socialism unfolding in Venezuela just as it has every time before?

It is only a matter of time until some of the unwilling slaves to the collective; enemies of the state; start turning up in mass graves.

Will people open their eyes about the reality of socialism then?

I guess blueridgeliving overlooked the title of the question.

JD,

Full-blown socialsm breeds dictators by its nature. France is only slightly more 'socialist' that the U.S. Certainly not a command economy.

Mises and Hayek wrote extensively on why true socialism is bound to create the problems we see in Venezuela. It is like Chavez is following "The Road to Serfdom" like a script.

Try Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom" or Mises' "Socialism".

Both can be found at http://www.mises.org

i agree with Lincoln i'd much rather live under a dictator than a fake democracy but whatever Chavez is or isn't is a matter for Venezuelans to decide, not dumbasses in the U.S. that don't have to live there.

the ideals of certain types of government are not the same thing as the fallible people who inact them. socialism might have been a good thing, if a good leader had ever tried to use it (in fact, a variation of it works pretty darn well in France and other European countries). am i surprised about Chavez? not in the least. has happened before; will happen many many more times. humans do not learn from history. nor do they care to.

Perhaps socialism came there because of the greedy capitalists. When will people open their eyes to the results of our actions down south. Is it all tumbling out of control? I guess we weren't always on the side of the people, huh.

I'm not at all surprised. I am highly amused. In fact, I think it is funny as heck. South America has always been a rather goofy place. Maybe some of our leftists will go there to live.

Nope. Danny Glover will go down there to smooth things over, and the mainstream liberal media will paint him as a hero and an ambassador for world peace.
