"for greatest forms of cruelty and violations of justice?" This from the people who brought you burnings at the stake, the Iron-Maiden, forms of torture to graphic to discuss on YA!, giving native Americans the "gift" of small pox infected blankets, I could go on and on....

Is he kidding? or is he really that self-deluded?

Did I mention he's a former Nazi youth member?

I must be a cynic and a heretic because what I saw in that article was yet another leader saying "Stay the Course". The problem I have with the Pope speaking out against Atheism lies in the Vatican policies, past and present, that starkly contradict the "moral high ground" to which it lays claim. For example, the Vatican was a "Johnny Come Lately" in denouncing the policies of Hitler and Nazi Germany.

More recently, Vatican policies of the past forty-plus years have focused on 'saving face' for the Church rather than dealing with the real problem and perpetrators of sexual misconduct. The bishop who was, for about twenty years, in charge of implementing those policies is now... the Pope.

Is it fair to bring up these 'unrelated' issues? In the sense of "he without sin casting the first stone", I think it is fair. If the Pope wants to cast blame outside the Church, I think he should first clean up his own "glass house"

On the other hand, I do agree totally with Archbishop William's recently publish opinion regarding US foreign policy:

I hope the Pope didn't punish Williams for it.

Ironic coming from a Nazi who represents an institution responsible for some of the most unspeakable acts against humanity outside of the holocaust.

And my grandfather wonders why I no longer practice.

Funny how the pope didn't mention how the worst crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing were brought about by people who think the other side is evil and they were given their purpose from God.

he must be joking.

I think he has lost his mind. Catholics practically invented torture.

Odd. I knew the Pope was pretty old, but not quite old enough to have single-handedly invented all those atrocious things you listed. Come to think of it, I don't think any Christian presently alive is that old.
