This famous insult comedian has been around for decades, so alot of the younger ones out there may not know who he is.

If you aren't sure who he is, here's a link to his site:

I'm asking because HBO is showing a documentary on him and that made me want to see how popular he is in the Community here.

Thanks!

I think he's enjoyable, at this point he's sort of an elder statesman of comedy. By that alone, he deserves more respect than he gets.

I've always liked him.

Don Rickles is sort of a dinosaur these days. He comes from a time when the whole style of comedy was different, back in the 60s/70s. His insults were always right on the edge of being mean-spirited. In different eras, different things are funny. Today we live in a much more mean-spirited age and comedians are much more mean-spirited.

Rickles always had a gift for 'comic timing'. Also he could improvise better than a lot of comedians today. Dennis Miller, for instance, is famous for his put-downs, his 'ascerbic' wit and rapid-fire delivery, but without a staff of writers and a teleprompter to read off, he's not funny at all. Don Rickles, in his day, could come on a talk show and just deliver one zinger after another with nothing pre-planned, nobody feeding him lines.

Yeah, but I liked Rodney Dangerfield a bit more. I'm like him in the respect department. I get none.

Yup, he is one of the all-time greats of comedy. He is one of the few who can insult people without them taking offense. You have to simply see him first before you can judge him and his act.

I've always liked him. Also he is a good dramatic actor as well - I always thought it a shame he wasn't given more of a chance to pursue that further.
