Indie MUSIC is more than indie ROCK. I mean true indie MUSIC. sufjan stevens, iron and wine, devendra banhart, band of horsed, my morning jacket, etc. NOT rock.

But there has been a bigger demand for electronica/techno, and I agree with that. That genre would cover a lot of ground that Yahoo! Answers didn't.
An "indie" category is a good idea, though. This is probably the first suggestion I've saw for it, and it makes sense for those who doesn't want to deal with mainstream music.
Oh, by the way, you don't have to name all indie rock. There's indie rap, indie pop, indie country, etc. but like what Dani G said, indie rock is the most popular indie.

because indie is usually short for independent ROCK........thus it falls in the rock&pop section
