I work at the Library here in my town and a girl came up to me and asked to switch computers because the one that she was on wouldnt let myspace come up, and she looked a little young and I asked her age and she said 9. Now that is really young right? whats the point in a nine year old having a MYSPACE, i just want your opinions!

I think the "official" age is 13 - a 9 yr old has no business on MySpace. But I think it's too raunchy even for 13 year olds. I think it should be 17+. I closed down my profile there because of all the sickos. It's just not what it was meant to be.

It doesn't matter what I think - the age REQUIREMENT is 14 - so if she was 9, she technically shouldn't have been on. Myspace has no way to enforce the rules though unfortunatly.

Also, myspace isn't a very good site for anybody, it is poorly made and run. Yuniti ( http://yuniti.com ) is a better site all around, and a lot safer. I wouldn't touch myspace with a ten foot pole personally.

Ultimatly though, I think it is the parents job to take an active role in what their kids are doing online, and to keep them safe. They can't expect the site do it for them. Supervision & communication are the best ways to keep your kids safe online.

Good question!

I think the minimum should be 16. There are so many disgusting predators and scams on there. Plus, now there are sites that phish your account and spam comments about drugs on your friend's page.
Of course there is really no way they could stop anyone from getting on there even if they were younger than 16.
There is absolutely no point in a 9 year old having a myspace. But, I have seen worse....the other day when I was in my cell phone store a woman was buying her FIVE year old a cell phone.

I dont think the age of children using myspace is the problem, I think the parental monitoring is. I think the parents should be MUCH more involved in what the kids do on there, or ANY open chat forum style page.

The main issue I see with anyone not say at least 18 is the "free ads" which are for dating sights have girls behinds showing with itty bitty undies on .. I could care less as an adult, but that is too much for kids to have access too.

21. There are too many sexual predators out there and too many teenagers pretending to be older than they are. It is all in fun for most of the kids, but a few of them do take offers for sex seriously and will get hurt.

They should have kids oriented sites (of various age ranges, like 10-12,12-14, 15-18) where content is strictly enforced, there are no passwords, and you need real parental permission.

I'd bet if Myspace charged a monthly fee, most of the problems of the place would go away. No more kids making the most outrageous sites they can because mom will never know.

I think that the age limit should be at least 16 or better...17. Myspace does have an age limit of 14 or older... but still the kids lie on their age to get an account. That is dangerous because we never know who they might be talking to on the web, but there are some privacy settings on that page. But still, a 9yr old shouldn't have access to that!!!

Yes there should be a limit. Young kids shouldn't be on there. Now myspace has turned into a place where predators lurk. Children are naive so they could get sucked up into a bad situation easily. Basically i just think that it's a way of protecting young kids.
