It's called Imagination and Creativity. Movies are made so we can escape the real world for a couple of hours and experience a whole new world that talented artists created. I don't think they're sick in the head, I think we actually need people like those in the entertainment industry. It makes us think.

Well are you surprised with how violent and disturbed society is in general that we are seeing these types of films. Look back when movie making just got started we had musicals and heart warming stories and just things about life and how great a world we live in. Now we have death and murder and a new serial killer born every hour. Really it is no surprise that hollywood is made up of guys with messed up ideas and thoughts that are being put on the big screen for our enjoyment and well gruesome factor look at Hostel 1&2 for instance or the Saw series.

Society loves violence really it is a dog eat dog world and that is depicted everyday on television why do you think the news is so sad and harse. It is munipulated like that because the Executives in charge know society would rather watch a car crash or something about suicide bombings then a person recieving someone's organ to survive or something else that is happy and well heartwarming. We here about all the death and carnage in Iraq but we never here about all the good the soldiers are doing rebuilding homes and store and peoples lives.

Really though if your dissing disturbing movies don't watch them.

A famous author once wrote the imagination is a world of its own. And that is true. For some maybe it is disturbing to have thoughts as such. but what of those involuntary self manifesting thoughts that grow and live on their own. Have you ever had a dream of something torturous and evil? It was only a dream but it was of something that scared you to the core. Well some people make their dreams into a reality. Most people like to feel grossed out. Most people love to see an almost impossible situation acted out. The people who make these movies aren't disturbing. I think its the people who act out gruesome things in real life that are the messed up ones.

The same can be said for any other type of art form, be it film, books, paintings. Often times what we find disturbing has a meaning to the artist, not one obvious to the viewer. Defining what is actually disturbing is a separate debate in itself. Although i have seen many films which I would deem as "disturbing", I do appreciate them to some point because of the artists way of being able to express himself in a matter that may not be appealing to the mainstream. Just an opinion. Personally I do feel there is some crazy stuff out there.

I would actually rather have someone with disturbing thoughts/ideas to go make a movie about it rather than go do it themselves. Also, most movies are based off of an actual event.

I think it depends on what it is - some movies are based on reality and as sick as the material may be, it's based on truth. Other movies like Hostel for example, that show human suffering, torture aren't really my thing. I don't think Hostel was based on a true story, but it was pretty gross to me.

Hey, for money people will do anything. No matter how sick or wrong it may be. But yes, I agree with you.

The whole drive is money though. That's all most people care about in todays world.

That thought had crossed my mind dozens of times over the past four decades of lurid movie making.

I disagree. I think that when they make "disturbing" movies, they want to make people see something they've never seen before or never thought about. I think they actually want to try something new and never thought of before.

Yeah but the people who find it truely amazing and facinating...they probably arent right in the head either.
But i have to admit i am one of those people.
I watch them enjoy them and could make a pretty damn good one.
Im slightly morbid but im ok with it
