I have an unpaid cell phone bill from cingular from 2006. Is dealing with the collection agency my only option? if not who should I contact?

Yes it is.

There are legal restrictions in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act about "how" the collection agency deals with you, but you can't get out of dealing with them, one way or another - either now or in court when they sue you.

most bills once they reach a collection agency have been "purchased" by the collection agency.
You can try calling Cingular but be prepared for them to refer you to the agency. They may no longer have you in the system if it has gone to collections.

Call the company directly, offer them the balance & they will likely w/draw the collection activity. You can also try just submitting the company the balance via mail with the check written directly to the company (you will need your account #)..sneaky but it may work!

If it has been turned over to colections, the cell phone company has nothing to do with cutting a deal. Period.

more than likely yes. You could see about a settlement offer.
