I feel allegiance (not blind obedience) to my country. But I don't say the pledge. When it happens in public, I stand up and be polite, but I don't say anything. Several reasons:

1 - A bunch of grown adults reciting something like that just gives me the creeps.

2 - It says "I pledge allegiance to the FLAG." A flag is just a piece of cloth. I pledge allegiance to the ideas of our founding fathers, who wrote the Constitution.

3 - I don't like the "under god" part. That was added in the 50s under pressure from right-wing religious groups. In our country, our Constitution provides for separation of church and state. Religious vows should have no part in our secular national traditions.

I'm pretty liberal by anyone's standards.

Unfortunately in this Bush Reign of Terror the Pledge of Allegiance is compelled patriotism. I prefer the Liberal freedom of expression.

I do, but I do not make the pledge "under God". And I believe one of the most important ways to show allegiance is to question and challenge the government. I do not believe that loyalty to your country means blindly accepting the word of the government and/or the President.

I pledge my allegiance to the ideals under which America was founded -- freedom and justice. But if America keeps electing turkeys like Bush, who don't understand those concepts and pervert them for his own goals, I don't think I could pledge my allegiance to the country with a clear heart.

This is not worshiping a flag. I wouldn't do that because I am a Christian. I do pledge allegiance to the flag for which it stands and our home of liberty. It is my home country and I love it. I am democrat, that this even matters.
I worship God and His son Jesus Christ. Although the pledge can sure bring tears to my eyes, it is special.====

Yes I do, and will again now.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.".

I think about it everyday. Boy, I wish I could get in front of a classroom of 6 years old again and lead them in the recitation. That was such an honor!

I already did, and I meant it.

I'm a republican, and I proved my allegiance by serving in the military.
