I made a good living on ebay from 2003 to 2005. I specialized in vintage items. After ebay bought PayPal, they seem to get greedy. Fees increased, costs for posting photos increased.
Buyers paying through PayPal could file a complaint against you and tie up your account for 6 weeks.
Finally I just got fed up and quit all together.

I miss selling on ebay and am thinking about going back into it but thought I would get opinions first.

GG I had a similar experience with that too. I was getting baby walkers dirt cheap and selling them for $40-$60
Some other people in Wisconsin figured out where I was gettingt hem and flooded the market. I knew one of them and I let her know what I thought!
Then the owner of the store I was getting them from also started selling them on ebay.

I quit after I moved from UK to Norway as they don't have any norwegian areas, so I'd really have to sell on teh UK one, meaning postage to UK will put people off and the locals wouldn't be looking at it . . . . looking for local alternative

I made a bad move....I invested in thousands of $$ of vintage silk kimonos imported from Japan and immediately after that, the kimono sellers all flooded the market, and drove the auction prices down to a fraction of what they should be sold for.

I found I can (sadly) take apart the kimonos and sell the fabric for LOTS of money, instead of selling the entire garment.

It is very disappointing, because REAL kimonos are collectible works of art, but there isn't enough demand to get a good price on ebay.

I tried to sell from 2001-2004.

I think the only way to make $$ on ebay now is to sell one TINY thing in mass quantity, that you know people need.

You can't sell anything of quality on ebay anymore, and make the money you should.

I only sell on ebay for "play money". By getting rid of clothing, shoes, old toys, books and movies, I am able to make extra cash for gas, shopping etc. Unless you have the resources to sell high end items such as popular electronics, flat screen tv's, lap tops etc. for more than what you paid for them, then there is not much of a profit. However, it does give me a little extra cash from time to time to afford small conveniences. Since the items I sell are used and found around the home, there is a small profit to be made, but not too much.

The fees are killers. Also, Paypal makes it very easy for buyers to chargeback and you are out the money.

I recently quit selling on ebay. It was pointless. You have to be able to get something almost free to make any money off of it.

I haven't quit completely yet but have been seriously thinking about it. It seems to be a hassle any more, to many people trying to take you. Some products get used then get sent back to you and you can't do anything about it. If you don't want to refund the buyer they will yank it right out of your account.
