Look life is all about choices most of them are not easy. You will never know unless you try.....what do you have to lose? You have more to gain, just remember with all things new you get alittle of the bad as well as the good. : )

Everyone who changes schools feel this way, yet they manage.

Will it be stressful? yes
Will you have some problems? yes
Will you have new opportunities? yes
Will you be able to fit in? yes

Try to think about this in logical, rational terms. Try to avoid emotional responses to high school. You're not even there yet.

If you focus on the 1st 2 questions, you will be terrified and school will probably be miserable.

If you focus on the last 2 questions, you will love it. Homeschooling gives you a different background than the other students. So does race, religion, neighborhood and family. So what? Try to focus on what the school offers that you wouldn't get at home. Not just classes or after school activities, but the other students. If you want to view it as an adventure, great. Explore. Go meet the natives. Some will be hostile. OK, tread carefully there. Others will be friendly. Try to form alliances.

Your skills at navigating the social structure (cliques and stuff) are probably poor. Work on those. It's a scientific experiment. Observe. Form a hypothesis. Test it. Go back to "observe."

There will come a time that you will be finished with school and you will need to meet people from all walks of life.

Going to a high school is a good experience. At first you may be overwhelmed by the newness of the situation. You will soon get over that. You will make friends and learn form the discussions in class with other students different points of view which by the nature of home schooling you probably did not have.

Well, eventually you are going to have to venture out in the world and it might be good for you to go to high school to see what the world is really about. It will help you socially when you get older. The reason I am saying this is because my boyfriend's younger brother was home schooled and just now left the house at 24 to pursue vet school. He is homesick like crazy and very anxious everywhere that he goes. Socially he is a nice guy but not outgoing at all.

first you didn't tell us how you are doing academically

second yu didn't indicate if you already have local friends, go out shopping, go to church and church functions, have hobbies or play sports

next you need to anazyle if the high school offers anything of real value to you

biology lab
chemsitry lab
physics lab
drama dept
music dept
student newspaper
student radio station
shops for electric, plastics

next there is safety at the school

finally you have to understand school is disciplined, you need to raise your hand and ask permission to go to the bathroom

you have 6 minutes between classes to get to the next class

they have detension for students who talk, disbtube or are tardy

then there are the student cliques

the goths, the preppies, the jocks, the nerds, the brains, the druggies, the punkers, the metalers

finally there is lousey school food that costs money

My daughter was in the same situation so she went gradually. Here is is called "Duel Enrollment" you take some classes through homeschool and some at school. She started in 9th grade taking two classes at school so she could get to know people. Then the next year she went full time. It worked well for her. Maybe that would be an option for you.

Go to High School....The new Kid Syndrome will go away after a while. You need to build the social skills that come with going to high school. just find nice people, and don't let the bullys get to ya! You'll never see them again after High school anyway, unless you want to.

Good Luck

Dont be afraid. High school is a wonderful experience everyone should partake in. Is a once in a life time experience that you will never have again. I think you should go. You'll love it.

Go to highschool and you will get acquainted with some friends and it will be great - homeschool is fine, but what about, prom, football games, hanging with your friends, going to the mall, being the new kid can work to your advantage, don't be so standoffish or shy or outrageous just be yourself and get to know people by asking question and by not prying or appearing to be weird - Don't hang with the loser and don't try to overly popular....You will do great.
