I can understand why you say it kinda makes me a racist to ask this, but in no way am I condoning the seperation of people by the color of their skin.
I'm simply asking what propels people who think like that to actually think like that.
Perhaps I should have worded the question differently.

i grew up in Detroit around every race you can think of -- and i found one thing out for sure ----every race has there fair share of ******* -- if we started judging people not by skin color but by if they are a-ahole or not the world would be a much better place

Because they are racists and that is what they do. It's not worth it to argue with people that judge others by the color of skin. I ignore them altogether. I am a white Hispanic. What I mean by that is that I have fair skin. And it happens in all cultures. I have seen among my own culture people like and dislike because some are darker. There are black Hispanics. And I have heard another Hispanic say but he or she is black. I have a niece who is black in my mother's eyes. She is always making comments but never while my sister is around. My father was also a racist.

Well you saying that kinda makes you a racist. The term racist is thrown around a lot and its not given the respect it deserves in terms of it should not be used a lot.
Racism, in my opinion, really stems from human compensation for happiness and purpose.
I know..."who knew?" right?
Everyone has problems. NOT THEIR PEOPLE. Stereotypes have a harsh effect on the worlds view of people and cloud judgment.
Though stereotypes may be true for some part...it doesn't matter. Every person is their own individual and deserves a clean slate. I am Jewish and though i was brought up orthodox i consider myself a well rounded individual. Though it is clear that a majority of Muslim follower of islam and other people may have antisemitic views i never assume that a single person does. I help any person who has a negative stereotype towards me because this ONE person may not. . Here's how i do this. I will see a Muslim man and if he sneezes i say bless you, if he needs help with his baby carriage up a flight of stairs i will help him. Because though i am my own individual i am a representative of my stereotype. and If i act differently, maybe just maybe this man's opinion(if he even has a negative one) may be swayed because i, a Jewish person, helped him. One must always help others regardless of what a persons stereo type is. Do not be defined by a stereo type only utilize it and do not give people a reason to agree with a negative stereo type. I always say "Do not judge people, only their actions". And, do not be pigeon holed.
So,in summation, Everyone has a bad past...and their are racists out there. but we must forgive and we must change the preconceptions that people may have towards a race. My friend Rob who is a black studies major says that his proffesor gave a great example of what im talking about he says that "Racists may think that a black person steals. So if you are black and you see a wallet on the floor. Don't think "they think ill steal it anyways so i might as well" Spit in the face of racism and find the person who lost their wallet and give it back to them. this will not only perhaps change one persons view of a people...but also it may change that african american's individual of himself and what he is capable of."
So you see a racist...do not give him a reason to be racist. I see a Klan member im going to talk to him, im going to befriend him, not because i agree with him...but because i want him to know that what he agrees in may not be right.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...and everyone is entitled to change someone else's opinion through action.
Good luck
(in response to your comment)
If thats ur question...straight up. Then i would say its a defense meccanism used by racist to unite through fear of a people or race and to insight hatred against a perticular group. This stereotyping may sound right to the untrained ear but ultimatly is faulty and doesnt really make sense. If you get someone who wants to hate and wants a reason for his woes then they will usually take any answer you give them. Thats why those that lead racist gangs or clubs use fear tactics to unite a group and then to be able to gain power by leading them.
If you want to get a really good answer to your question i suggest reading books explaining the psychology behind nazism and other cults.

because that is what racists do... if they didn't do those things they wouldn't be racist. Noone with the capability to look at him/herself in a mirror with a critical eye is likely going to be a racist.

because they think their race does nothing wrong. "there is none so blind than is he who will not see" as a great person once said. racism is easy to define. it is a form of ignorance. everyone is quick to point out the flaws of others but dont even recognize the flaws of themselves. good luck.

Small minds.
I can understand some name calling, but if it for something that a person has no control over, that is a tad small minded.
"hey that (#@(@#$( cut me off!!!"
"Hey that (human being) is a "blahblah."
Makes no sense.
