No, if the sale was in 2006, it has to be reported on the 2006 return (filed in early 2007). If that wasn't done, you need to amend your 2006 return to show it.

anything can be reported anytime at the convenience of the citizen. but it is the prerogetive of the taaxman to take the report on the face value as per guidelines.

it would be better to file a revised return for that year instead of including the income in the subsequent year.
by the way you have not clearly mentioned either the assessment year or the previous year to which your income relates
